I know I should have asked this before I travelled, but at an intersection in the US what does the flashing amber light mean? Usually displayed in the early hours....proceed with caution??

This is just a warning to slow down a bit, and be on the lookout. Basically, like you said, proceed with caution. it is often accompanied by a flashing red at an intersection. Cars going through have to stop, but you just have to slow down.

this is somrthing you should know if you have a driver's license in the US...an amber flashing light always means caution...the red flashing light is the same as a stop sign. be careful out there!
