Actually, you must do it at the same time.

Both the return and the W7 must be mailed together to the ITIN unit of the IRS in Austin, TX.

Yes, just remeber that when requesting a ITIN you will have to send your completed tax along with a W7 application and it doesn't go to the regular IRS address.

Keep a copy for yourself and make sure you sign the forms and also make sure all your supporting documentation is signed by you. Make copies of original supporting doc for W7 and have somone notarize your signature on them. You can also send originals and they will mail back.

Look up irs on web and print w7 app or go to a HR Block they can help.

You will have to delay any state filing until you receive your ITIN from the FED then send copy of FED 1040m copy of ITIN along with state this should work.

Your TIN number is your SSN. (TIN = Tax Identification Number for individuals thats your SSN) Of course you need your TIN to file, but you don't have to apply for it.
