Jews believe in a place for purification and gaining wisdom, but it's not eternal and it's not purely for punishment like Christianity's "hell" is.
Greeks and Romans believed in Hades long before Christianity came along. Volcanoes were thought to be openings to an underworld of magical fiery destruction.

Jews believe in hell, but definitely not like the christian hell. Muslims also believe in hell if I'm not mistaken.

There are many religions with many hells.Asipatra, Taptakumbha and Lohakumbha, Of course my Christian Hell, Tâmisra, Andhatâmisra, Raurava, ...the list is ASTOUNDING!!! Some religions have more than one hell, or hells with different levels.

I cannot speak for others but I can tell you that at least 6 1/2 million Christians do not believe that a loving God would torture his children eternally in fire. The Bible doesn't teach it either.

I think the devil, and the endless fire, esp the lake of it, is only held by jesusians now, but thew got the idea from other places...
