My car was broken into last nite, and took a bunch of items. I just need to know if its even worth calling the insurance company.

Liability car insurance only covers dammage caused by your car. However some times homeowner insurance will cover thieft of items. Either way never leave anything of value in a car. Most often deductable and higher insurance rates will keep you from filing a loss.

Your personal items in the car are not covered on your auto policy no matter what kind of auto coverage you carry. Your personal items are covered under your homeowners or renters policy.

When your car is broken into, it can turn into two claims. One for any damage done do the car (which would be covered under comprehensive coverage) and one for theft of personal property if it exceeds the deductible of your homeowners or renters policy.

You would be responsible for the deductibles on both claims, too.

Nope, Liability only covers the cars and or property you damage with your car.
Even auto theft doesn't cover contents of the car, just the car itself.

Umm, why do you know so little about your policy? Did you buy on-line? I am a licenced broker. I explain the basics of policies to my clients. There are certain policies I refuse to sell people, because I know they would be back claiming I never told them such-and-such wasn't covered. Liability covers you for damage you do to another person and or his property. It covers nothing of yours. This should have been explained to you by your broker or agent. Property inside your car would not be covered by any auto policy, but it may be covered by the off-premises provision of your home or tenant policy.

No. Stuff inside your car would be covered by your homeowners or renter's policy. Even if you had "full coverage" on your auto policy, it wouldn't cover your "stuff".

Liability only means, we'll never pay YOU, we only pay the guy you hit.

Liability only covers what you do the the other guys car or him or her and doesn't cover any damages to your car or stuff.
