Why do christians seem to think they need guidance and support from God when atheists are quite capable of the same guidance and support from themselves?

Does it not make sense that when the christian believes they are getting guidance & support from God, it is in fact coming from within themselves?

Can't they see how well atheists cope with life and realise that they don't need assistance from an imaginary higher being?

Why do christians have so little faith in their own abilities?

Doubts lead to wisdom. This is how reforms take place.

Religion teaches them that they are insufficient, so they keep the pews full. It's part of the emotional manipulation that the church uses to get and gain converts. Guilt, fear, and insecurity are powerful tools for controlling people.

They also drill into their congregations that atheists and other non-theists aren't "really" happy.

For the same reason atheists have so little faith in God. But just for the record, God loves ALL His children, even those that dont acknowledge Him. Just like any good parent, you dont dismiss your children because they dont follow you. You hope for the best and hope they come back to you soon. For those children that STAY with their parents, its easy to have faith in them because we have more of a personal relationship.

It is not that we dont have faith in our own abilities we just admit thart sometimes we can be wrong despite our best abilities. Sometimes despite anybodys best efforts things dont turn oiut as they planned. So we rather they be the right thing first.

Maybe Christians know there is someone greater than themselves. Maybe they believe with all this incredible design and creation it did not happen by chance but by someone much much greater than themselves.
