Your forgetting that Jesus also said that those who live by the sword will die by it.

The catholic church wa built by the sword and it will die by the sword, the Word of God.

But it is mainly Christian people and organisations that help the poor, its the politicians who keep the poor poor, and also the lack of wanting to help themselves. If they have everythig given to them why would they change? And the ones that do want to change their situation find it very difficult because of past mistakes, or stupid rules applied to them by government.

Challenging questions are nice as long as they come from "informed" people.
1. I don't know where you heard women are now allowed into priesthood: this is wrong. You must have heard this regarding other Churches.
2. The new testament was not written 100 years after the old one: the old one is written over a wide period of time. The oldest books date from 900-1000 before Christ.
3. If it is a question of richness, why don't you tell the head of the Church of England, who happens to be the richest woman in the world, to donate all her fortune?
4. There is no evidence Mark wrote anything.
5. Religion doesn't keep people poor. Unfortunately, the capitalist system works only if a group of people maintain negative income. This is an issue that has been discussed repeatedly (mainly in the '70s by Galbraith, Nobel price in Economy). Is the need to maintain a "needed" market what keeps things as they are.

Pastor Billy says: this really is just silly talk.
The Catholic Church is already one of the biggest good will contributors in the world today. This asker should add to list all the museums in the world. How about having them give up their art collections to private collectors. The Vatican's largest asset is Vatican City itself. At today's standards it would be impossible to build hence the large price tag. Other than St. Peters what does the Vatican have to sell? All the art work and literature is a deposit of the Christian faith for students and theologians to come and study.
Really some of the answers here have no merit and little thought has been made in formulating them as with this question to begin with. The primary riches of the Catholic Church are her people. Get back to me once your Church or government has been around for 2000 years than we'll talk about who is the richest monetarily.

You have a great point, but on the other hand, the Catholic Church gives more money to charitable non-profit causes than any other religion. Charity could be considered to be the foundation of Christianity.

I guess living in a ranty shack would make certain clergy appear more humble, and I'm sure many corrupt have assumed clergical positions and abuse their office...but on the whole, the actions of the Church worldwide are much more important than the lavish decorations found in the smallest country in the world (0.17 square miles)

There are many Catholics such as myself who also believe it is dangerous to flaunt wealth, but you'll never see a bishop riding around in a Ferrari, or living large in Las Vegas.

It's been said that a man's home is his castle, and the main office of the of the Catholic Church has certainly become quite a majestic castle, but not necessarily as the result of greed.

In fact the Vatican does NOT allow women to be ordain or into the priesthood; but they do accept some male married priests in Africa and also theoretically accept validity of Anglican ordination (who have married priests), though with some problems... The New Testament was written over a long period, by various people, and was COLLECTED more than 100 years after reported date of Jesus' death; the Old Testament was written over a MUCH longer period, not a 100 years before the New... And the riches of the Vatican or any religion organization were given to God, held in trust as a token of the givers' devotion; you think the gifts should be used but that wasn't the expectation of the givers at all. Plus, most of it is priceless history and art; you want it all sold to non-religious or destroyed to feed part of one generation of the poor, who will always be with us? (according to Jesus in a Gospel, at any rate).

If the vatican liquidated there assets they could end 3rd world debt.
The Vatican is changing so that it is more appealing to more people although I do believe that they are to much of a "boys club" to allow women to join.
Jesus would react the same way as when he destroyed people selling goods for profit out the front of his Fathers house.
Sex and the Church can more than likely be traced to Constantine (he founded the basis for Roman Catholicism although he was baptised until just before he died. He was a gambler and backed the winning side)
Jesus also said "I am not in building of bricks and stone." I don't need to go to Church to feel close to God. I walk outside and marvel in all the things that He created.

You need to spend some points and split this question up.

I will pick one question to answer.

The reason that Mark did not mention crucifixion earlier is because it was common knowledge at the time. The Romans crucified anyone who committed a major crime. Hundreds or even thousands of people were crucified by them all over the Roman Empire. Even Peter was crucified.

What Jesus did for us was much more than being crucified as an innocent man. He suffered and paid the price for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross, and He was resurrected to overcome death, so we could live again. He now offers to clean us from sin if we repent.

Look at all the answer for the believers of God. The will ignore, insult and berate but they will not deal with real questions about there religion because they would have to admit the were fools that bought swamp land and paid top dollar for it now they are stuck with it.

How embarrassing it must be to have been such a sucker.

The man referred to as Jesus, A Son of our Father (The Universe), was not the Christ.

He was a messenger - You NEVER Worship the Messenger!

The Catholic Church has basically nothing to do with GOD, it is a business, Pure & Simple (Just like most Religions).

holy mother, dude!

since when did the vatican approve female priests? that particular event, albeit newsworthy, appear to have escaped us religious commentators who do not have your almost divine access to the inner workings of vatican city.

anyway, as for the poor, perhaps you might also want to give consideration to the fact that religion appears to flourish when people are poor. look at africa, most people starve there, from what the media tells us, and yet christianity (and islam in some parts) is extremely powerful there. and south america, some parts equally as poor, yet the catholic church is again one of the most powerful institutions.

look at the middle east. people are pretty poor over there to, and look at where radical islamism draws its primary support from!

now look at the west, at britain, the liberal parts of the states and australia. as we get richer and richer traditional religion looses more and more ground. i deliberately make no mention of the bible belt because there it is lack of education that makes religion powerful. you see, usually, the richer you are the more educated you are, and thus no need for religion on two counts: first, why need god when things are well, and second, if you're enlightened you usually have no need for god either.

so there you have it. but, 10 points for amusing me re: female catholic priests. vale
