for a while i have been sleeping flat on the bed without a pillow (i never used to sleep with one). and for that i have credited it to my back and neck pain i have been suffering minorly for a while. on the advice of a friend, i started using a pillow for the first time in ages and when i did, the next morning i was in much more pain than before. is this a good (no pain, no gain) sign that my body is adapting to a much more healthier posture? or is it getting worst? im not physiotherapist here anyway.

The muscles in your neck are not use to being in a different position for so many hours, that's why you Woke up in so much pain the next morning. your going to have to go at a slower rate of changing to a pillow. Try laying on the pillow for just two hours and then remove it for the rest of the night. Every four days increase the hour of usage of the Pillow . I know this may be inconvenient, so you may want to try this during the day so you can time it. If not set your alarm clock to wake you up to remove the pillow.

For now use a moist heating pad on your neck and shoulders for twenty minutes. This will help with the pain. Also if you can get a professional massage that will greatly reduce the pain throughout your body.
