when my cd player is turned on my speedometer turns off. the connections are all idiot proof they only fit into specific locations. when my cd player is off the speedometer works it takes a few seconds to start after i turn the cd player off can anyone help please?

Idiot-proof or not, it sounds miswired. If it's a GM vehicle, then you probably have a speaker wire connected to the vehicle's speed sense wire. Many GM's (and probably some other makes) have a feature called Speed Controlled Volume, which when activated turns the radio up as you go faster. To do this, there's a wire in the radio harness that's tied into the speedometer circuit. It's usually a green wire, so it's the same color as the factory right front speaker wire; when the radio turns on, if it sends voltage to this wire it will kill the speedometer.

sounds like u have a electrical problem...better get it checked out b4 u burn something up!
