I have been dealing with acute plantar fasciitus for 3-4 months now and the ortho doctor is wanting to put me in a cast. However I need one for walking due to I am the sole provider for my family for my husband is recovering from major back surgery. I can not afford to take off work but this pain is getting unbearable. So would a walking cast offer as much relief as a normal cast?

You will be able to get around much better with a walking cast. I recommend you take a calcium supplement to help your bones heal. I understand the difficult position you're in being the sole provider. Try not to walk or stand Whenever possible so that the bone can heal. I have broken a bone before in my ankle so I know what it's like.

Being a veteran and meeting other veterans at the VA facility in my area, I have been told by some, that a walking cast is made to endure more punishment than a regular cast. However, it is still cumbersome to move about.
I hope that you and your husband get well soon.
ps: I had my back injured years ago from an auto accident. You may email me and I can give you and your husband some tips on how to cope with an injured back.
