A woman brought her child to see Ghandi and ask him to tell his son to stop eating candy.

-come back in two weeks, said Ghandi after some thought.

Two weeks later, the woman comes back with her child, and Ghandi looks him in the eye and tells him to stop eating candy.

-why didn't you tell him that two weeks ago? asked the lady.

- because two weeks ago, I used to eat candy....

Yes, thank you guys, I don't think its a real story, but it shows how he practised his teachings and put himself on the same level as his fellow beings always.
The fact that "he used to eat candy"is cute. Reminds me of mrmyagi in Karate kid. Sweet, candid and full of wisdom

And yes, it probably goes to show that until then, he didn't see candy as a bad thing. But since someone wanted to be free of it, he applied his "so be it" attitude toward the lady. Very noble.

I totally agree small.

Gandhi is considered a Karma Yogi means one who do all actions in a dedicated manner and his greatest weapons are Peace and Non-violence. He acted well and left the results to God. The above anecdote is a true reflection of his mind.

Ha! I like this. As I am on a diet and not eating candy I will use Ghandi for inspiration. :-)

Boy, am I a knucklehead or what for going on a diet with Easter chocolate galore around?

Lovely story.

Probably not literally true, but encapsulates some of his teachings very well.

By the way, his name is spelled "Gandhi". I'm late making this post, because I realised I'd misspelled his name myself a few posts back, and had to go back and correct it!

But we're all human.

In my view there has never been a more clever politician as well as a more noble spiritual person, both rolled into one. He brought the mighty British rule on its knees with his sheer spiritual strength of truth and compassion (non-violence).

Another quote of his that impressed me a lot was..... it requires more power to forgive than to punish..... as usual he followed this principle in his own life as well... he used to go on a fast when unhappy with someone, rather than find ways to retaliate or hurt them otherwise.... A novel healthy way of controlling and absorbing anger!!

Gandhi also had a lawyer's mind and was also quick-witted. It probably took him two weeks to consider a wise response to the child's dilemma.
