"BIG BROTHER"----------there is an old book titled 1984
let's just say it was way ahead of it's time.

I have mixed feelings about the cameras. There are a few intersections where people ALWAYS run red lights, and they are kind of dangerous. Those however are not the ones that have cameras. On the other hand I don't think someone should be given a ticket for something that a police officer did not see. The whole "big brother " thing is kind of getting out of control.

Will it prevent crime from happening? Not a chance. If you mean running red lights is a crime, as to say accidents and hit and runs.

cameras are nothing but money makers, there is a saying about locks," locks keep honest people honest. " People who obey the law do not run lights on purpose and yes everyone at sometime will run a light by error. Around my area half the yellow light cycles are short timed, and I believe that is on purpose. If the speed limit approching a light is 45 and the yellow cycle runs only 2 - 3 seconds it smells like a speed trap to me. No way I am slamming my brakes on and stopping int he middle of an intersection.

But hey install the cameras and learn to smile at the man.

I think it may put a little dent into the red light runners, what a ticket!!!!! cameras at intersections may help with the investigation in other crimes.

I think it would be a fantastic idea. Other than the fact that everyone would be broke because the taxes would be raised to pay for the cameras, and there wouldn't be any criminals on the street because they would all be hired to monitor the cameras. Personally I prefer color cameras. Seriously. In theory, it would be great.

Does not necessarily prevent crime, but it sure does crack down on the red light runners.
Further more:
AS my good colleague Carl P said, people do run red lights cause they can't slow down or stop.
Unfortunately most "accidents" occur because those people, and some of them are deadly. "accident"...there is no such thing as "accident". All crashes occur because someone violated a traffic law.
