To get Hussein. When Bush was approached with the idea of using the oil to defray the cost of the war he insisted that we could not touch it, as it was the oil of the people of Iraq. He did not want us to become looters of the people we freed. If anyone wanted the oil, it was the UN.

He reportedly did it because he believed they were funding Al Qaeda and had weapons of mass destruction. Neither proved true, but hey.
In any case, Iraq's invasion was NOT about oil. Understand, he honestly thinks that his administration is making decisions towards our better interest. The only problem being, they're not.
