I am not a speed reader but I have taken psychology. It is actually hard to expain. Okay, when you read a word, your brain doesn't read it letter by letter. It groups letters together and recognizes words.

You probably could read the words even though they weren't in order. Your brain recognized the letters and automatically tried to make sense of them. Then, your brain tried to recognize the context of the word - the sentence which we all know is the standard typing sentence containing every letter in the alphabet.

Our brains try to make sense of stuff before we actually have a chance to piece it together. speed readers do it faster. I think their brains have an advanced reasoning of grammer and therefore jump through sentences and even paragraphs piecing together their meanings before they can actually be read off the page
How's that?

Sure, there are several different methods aimed at somewhat different results, but all of them work to gather information at a faster rate than is common of detailed reading for content. There are also tricks of the trade that let a person read for content at faster rates and tricks to help remember key points better - often by picking the key points and skipping in between.

Basically - you must know what you're looking for before you start.

You read the page very quickly until you come across a word that is associated with what you want to know. You read that more slowly (take notes or the reference it if it's useful) then go back to reading quickly.

one way i know and try myself is to skim line by line. maybe stopping on a couple words on each line And letting your peripheral pick up the rest. you will have to comprehend fast but you will get it. you will not get every single detail but you can get an overview. try with something that really interests you. with the mind intrigued, it assimilates faster and more efficiently. also drink some coffee or do something that kind of pumps you up to focus.
