This is a great question. I have noticed for some time that on Yahoo Answers there are people who for some reason feel the need to mock Christians and the Christian God as stridently and frequently as they can. It almost seems as though they have nothing constructive to say or do. It is interesting that they do not spend so much time mocking other things they disagree with and they behave more civilly at other times. There is obviously something special about Christianity that they hate. I used to be one of them, mocking Christians as rudely as I could (just like so many in Yahoo Answers). God himself convinced me that I was wrong and now I am one of the people I used to ridicule. I can't say why so many others on Yahoo Answers are obsessed with Christian bashing, I can only say why I believe I was:

1) God was dealing with me by His Spirit through the years and I was rebelling against that. This is why I mocked the message of the one true God and not some other.

2) The Christian gospel is humiliating! It told me there was no way I could develop myself spiritually or earn a right to know God. I needed a savior to do for me what I could not do for myself.

3) The Christian God was bigger than me! I could not control him, tell him what to do, or even figure him out.

4) The Christian God was someone I would one day answer to and that thought was abhorrent to me.

So I fought, mocked (saying things I mistakenly thought were intelligent criticisms), and ridiculed until God had his way in my life. I suspect that many of the people who are so obsessed with mocking a God and a message they "don't believe" are people who are resisting the working of God's spirit in their lives. Otherwise they would get a life and behave in a civil manner. I find their conduct encouraging since it seems like evidence of God at work in their lives.

2 Peter 3:3-5 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Wher is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willlingly are ignorant of, that by the Word of God the heavens were of old, ...

1. Notice the words willingly are ignorant.
- That word ignorant does not mean that they have no understanding of Christ, but that they know Christ but refuse it.

2. They are very foolish. Psalm 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

3. Simply they get angry because they know that God is real. Shoot you can live outside and nature will teach you that at least something had to create the world and sun moon stars. I mean look at people living in 3rd world countries. They may not know Jehovah God, but they do serve some kind of god.

No, atheists know that people exist. Sadly, there are people who base their entire guiding life philosophy on a fictitious premise - that of god or religion. With that fictitious premise they sometimes do terrible things and convince other people to do terrible things. Do you know how many atheists flew planes into the Twin Towers on 9/11? None. Can you imagine what a blow to the suicide terrorist motivation it would be if they all knew that there was no heaven and no 72 virgins waiting for them when they died? Oh, but of course, we in the US know that because THEIR religion is crazy not ours. Not the one that sends gay people and shrimp eaters to hell. Not the one with unicorns and a 6000 year old universe. Not the one with a flood that killed everything on the planet (save two) just a few thousand years ago. Not the one whose god says that it is wrong to worship at an altar made of stone worked by the hands of men (every church in existence). Oh, that's right, we don't take the bible literally, because if we did, that WOULD be crazy. Not everything in the bible is true, right? it was written by men, right? Do you know what they call a book that is filled with things that aren't true that is written by men? Fiction. Welcome to atheism.

thats what im saying. i was under the impression they didnt care either way. yet it seems many atheists on y!a spend their time saying christians believe in unscientific savage make believe. whats it to you?
they want to fight religious zealots that cause violence and hatred but most ppl up here just make smart remarks about how religion isnt real. seldom do i read an atheist answer that explains what u can do to stop religious bigotry and hatred. they want to fight fanatics but you cant tell if someone is a religious fanatic or not by one paragraph they post on yahoo!. if you want to take a stand teach a seminar or somthing. write a book. otherwise get a grip. live and let live.

Well as Christians we all know the answer to that one.

There hearts are very heavy with a battle for there minds going on. Its easier for them to believe what tickles there ears than to believe the truth of the Living God.

Very good question, but watch the answers. They blame the Christian. But I have seen much mockery of God and Jesus even the Holy Ghost.
They believe a lie,and reject the truth.
Jesus is the spoken word of God.
Jesus is my salvation.<><

As several atheists here have said, they are not against God so much as they are against religious zealots who try to force them to believe in holy books filled with (in their minds) myths.

I use to be an atheist. Now I am an agnostic. I do not think that Atheist care if you believe in a god or not. They have a problem with christians denying evolution. Which I do not understand. I have read the bible and it say that "we molded man in our image" Molded means...molded over time. One does not mold something without taking time. Evolution is the molding of man. Also not that in Genisis it states in "our image" which denotes a whole race of beings not just one creator
