It's probably because of the cable you are using. You have to make sure that the cable is first in good condition and second, the right one. I'm not sure what king of MP3 player you have nor what kind of input does your in-dash player in the car has but if you have an iPod (for example) you could get an RCA cable set the yellow, red and white one and just plug in the white and the red (the ones meant for audio). If you car stereo does not have a input for this, then you need to get a mini plus with two ends being "male" and if this doesn't work then you must have a cheap mp3 player that only sends a signal in "mono" (not stereo) or a cheap stereo that only receives mono, but I very mush doubt this would be the case. The last thing I could think of is that your tracks have been recorded only in mono which is also a rare case but you never know. Hope it woks out for you though. I wished you had explained a little more about your mp3, your stereo, the cable you are using and the king of inputs your stereo has, that would have helped answer the question more accurately.
Oops, sorry I just read the kind of stereo you have and there's no way it would read stereo. I the input in the front? change your cable. Is it in the back? make sure everything is well connected.

Assuming you're using the right cable (3.5mm stereo mini plugs, not 2.5mm) and it's inserted all the way, then there may be a problem with the cable or the jack. Unfortunately the small front aux input jacks on radio faceplates are prone to failure. Try a different cable, and if that doesn't work, then the faceplate needs to be replaced. It should still be under warranty if you purchased from an authorized dealer.

Check the cable. The 2.5mm jack should have 3 contact points on the end of it. This would be a stereo cable.
If it only has 2 contacts then it is a mono cable. This would only allow sound to be heard through the left side.
You may need a stereo, femal-ended 2.5mm cable.
Good Luck!

check the settings on the mp3 or it might be the wrong audio plug for the mp3 to the cd player.

cable subject. examine teh connection. what type is it. Use alcohol and swabs to scrub all connections consisting of the only going to the radio and ipod. and the relationship indoors. enable dry. now push the cable iin firmly and attempt back. i take advantage of this to scrub usb ports besides. if u have electric powered conductive grease that works properly to lubricate. they arrive in tiny packets from electric powered shops.
