the soreness from lactic acid buildup is perfectly normal, there are many ways to counter it, first and foremost if you have a coldtub (opposite of a hottub) i suggest sitting in one of those for 5-10 mins after an intense workout, or icing areas like hamstrings and quads (common places for soreness)

deep muscle massages work well also, if you have been to any physical theraphy place, you may have noticed a stick with a lot of beads on them (link below) this right here is the most affordable, and works best, and can be used anywhere, highly recommend it

The pain yo feel while exercising or just after is a build up of lactic acid.
That only happens when you push hard for an extended period of time; for example if you sprint for as long as you can.
What you feel the next day(s) is different. It is called DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) and is caused by micro injuries in the muscle fibres. It is normal when you do something new or if you just got into exercise.

with out getting too scientific lactic acid is caused as a byproduct of exercise this is usually the "burn" that is felt when training at a high of intensity.

the soreness that occurs typically 24-48 hours after exercise is called delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). this is caused by both microtrauma to skeletal muscle and a loss of calcium homeostasis in the muscle cell.
