I don't like lying to people. I had to do this assignment where I meditate for 15 minutes every night and record my experience.
The thing is, now I am supposed to write a paper about my experience and I don't know what to do because some really freaky things happened while I was meditating! I think the goal of this assignment was to show the class how meditation can be beneficial to your health, but I slipped very deep into a dissociative state on two of the nights that I meditated and had almost a "religious" experience. I don't want to lie about it, but I am afraid my teacher will think I am a weirdo and that I am making this all up!The one night I did it with my eyes open and I saw a sparkly patch on some clothes and then my body appeared to vanish and I felt as if I wasn't going to exist. A few nights later I felt disconnected from my body and completely euphoric; it was as if I was being transported somewhere and that somebody wanted to show me something.

What should I do?

I love nuts! But hey -- just gloss over the parts you don't want to share.

Wow...first off I want to say that you must go to a VERY openminded school, and have an awesome teacher. What you did and experianced was the whole point of your teacher's assignment. You basically let yourself relax into deep mediataion, and find yourself and your subconsciece. This is WHY people meditate. There are endless possiblities to what and where the mind can go.. Dont lie!!! Explain EXACTLY what happened to you, and I'll bet you get an A. If you have more questions email me

Tell the truth. Different people respond differently to these sorts of exercises. Lying's a bad policy anyway. Your experience doesn't make you crazy unless you start believing that it's more than an illusion. At the very least, it'll give the class something to talk about. It's also possible that your teacher expects some of you to have more vibrant experiences than others. Either way, your class gets to learn something.

If your teacher has asked you to meditate and record the experience I don't think they would call you a nut if you gave them an honest account.

If you have classmates you get on well with and can trust, why not discuss it with them? They may have had similar experiences.

Or you could try asking the teacher what kind of experiences they've had.

If you're still worried you could write in general terms about your experience and not go into too much detail.

The whole point of meditation is to have a religious experience, if not that of a specific religion. It is actually quite scientific. You seem pretty skilled at it, which is cool. All that's happening is that you are slowing down the part of your brain that constantly defines and enforces the boundary between you (the Self), and the outside world. Neurologists have measured it quantitatively in nuns and monks. Once this part shuts down, something else takes over, like a dream probably. If you write about acheiving that state, you'll do well. Just remember, it's in your brain, not the supernatural.

You should write about your experience anyway even if your teacher thinks your crazy. Why? God will allow you to see some things so it can bare witness to someone else who does not believe. The same people who say you are crazy later down the road will have the same experience and come to realize it was God because they heard you write about it in your paper. Do not take it lightly. You'd be suprised at the people who have had a similar experience and their afraid to talk about it for fear of being laughed at. I see this all the time.

I'm not sure what you believe in as far as God. We do have souls, and spirits good or bad are real. I would tell of my experiences, they wont think you are crazy. I'm sure the teacher has had some paranormal experiences him/herself.

Write down what you just wrote to us. It should be perfect and get your point across while helping your teacher to understand what your concerns are.
