The concept of childhood is actually a fairly recent idea in Western culture. It stems from the industrial revolution in Europe. Children were put to work in factories where they would lose limbs or life and many children under the age of 12 were addicted to morphine and alcohol. This caused an uproar with the caring elite of that time to create a protection act for children and to value childhood. Things are not getting worse.
As for your quote, the ages of 16 and 17, historically were in fact, nearing mid to old age. What you consider to be children, were getting married and having their own children by this time. Pregnancy is historically age appropriate for a 14 year old girl. Of course, given the advancement of science and the prolongment of our life spans as well as our culture, it's not ideal.
Anorexia, unwanted/unplanned pregnancy, depression, stds and alcohol/drug abuse can be combated with education. I don't mean sheltering the children with abstinence only training and d.a.r.e. programs, but with truth and facts.
There is no point whining about the loss of childhood because childhood is a made up concept, but we can worry about what is, why it is and how to change and prevent these problems.

In order to get back "childhood" we'd have to get rid of all media outlets including magazines that show women in unflattering ways, too skinny to be alive, all cigarette adds, all TV programs, all violence, all computer games, all ****, all alcohol adds, all hip-hop artists...this could go on all night. I guess we can just act like adults, and let children have their childhood for as long as possible. It's the parent's fault for taking it away. When was the last time you played a game with your child? Now a days parents let the TV do the raising of the child. That's why I love my job! I get to play with kids all day! I love to see their reaction when I play games and get out the clay, and build a cardboard box fort with them! These are things the parents aren't doing any more!

How? -by living in the moment, today.
By living each day as if it were the last day on Earth.
How would you like to spend it?
Drinking, drugging, and screwing around, aggressively swearing and screaming with resentment, cursing everybody including God?
Or playing with balloons, entertaining little kids,singing Nursery Rhymes , playing on the swing, looking at blue skies, green grass, and rainbows?
Thanking Him for giving you a chance to make a small difference in someone else's life, helping him/her to regain the ability to live life with childlike simplicity;
Taking life just ONE day at a Time, enjoying one MOMENT at a time, and saying 'Bye' to your loved ones and "Hi!" to God when your last day on earth is over?
You have a choice, today!

With this generation childhood is not lost by 16-17 but couple of years early.The root cause behind is not only they are sharper mentally but physically too ie their senses are getting developed too premature.
There is not much we can do about this sort of natural development but yes we can develop and nourish the hobbies they are interested in, also compulsorily involve them in some outdoor sport and of course take effort to make them enjoy the games we would play in our childhood ie gilli danda, cycling, make toys of dough.It is us you know who take pride in exposing them to latest games and gizmos.We must conciously share our childhood stories with them and tell them how badly we miss those days.

Today is a new day and tomorrow will come. We cannot undo the past but make an effort to go forward and love ourselves. It is never too late to make a choice to do good things for your self. Good luck.

Hi, i would like to suggest you one think regarding this, if you have children take their photos and if possible take down video also, so they can recall all memories when they see those photos and video. And give then freedom let them do what ever they want to do up to only 10 class, after that you have to be strict. other wise they may chose bad way of leaving.
