It seems as soon as the captives reached friendly soil people started criticizing the way they handled themselves during the entire ordeal. I've never been in that situation, but I'm not sure anyone should risk dying just to save a little face. I probably would have "confessed" and apologized too.

I think it's easy to say what people should/should not do when you're sitting at home or at a comfortable tv studio. People who do that (judge others without being in their place) really annoy me.

I firmly believe they were wrong in making the filmed confessions. By doing it they risked execution with Iran using the confessions as justification.

Then what? Would U.K. invade with or without allied assistance? In that event the would the whole Arab world come to Iran's assistance. They were wrong to put themselves and their country in that position.

Having said that, I wonder what, if any, training they received prior to being in 'Harms Way'.. While true, you can't give total Resistance to the captor; you also don't give him total control. Their training should have prepared them to deny the enemy total credibility. Emphasis on 'Total'.

Conversely any negative statements prior to their release would have been used to demoralize them and break them down further. So I think the Brit's and the UK Media played that very well.

In any event we weren't there and don't know their circumstances or motivations. Those who do know are responsible for follow-up and ensure if there is fault, it will be used to improve the captives position; because it will happen again.

Yes, many people would confess and apologize if they thought it would help them to gain some favor with their captors.

But if you fail to "successfully resist," for lack of a better term, you're playing right into the hands of your captors.

Do people resist to save face? Oh, yes ... Many surely have. See my link which pertains to an "American Experience" program entitled, "Return with Honor." If you'd rather not buy it, see if you can find and borrow a copy from your local library.

Watch it and learn why you must resist, what can happen if you do resist, and how these brave servicemen fought with all their might ... and didn't surrender their will to resist until they just couldn't take it any more.

Ive never been a pow , but imagine if after they took your id or whatever . And they threatened to find your family and harm them, would you have "confessed"? Not inclining that they are in the right, but just a thought.

Not ashamed as the British government is!

It turns out that they have "actually" (and illegally) invaded Iranian waters after all on a subterfuge mission--then tried to cover it up, by making it look like they were in Iraqi waters all the time.

I would like to say I would have held out longer, but I don't know what they were faced with.

I'll form my opinion when the whole story comes out.

It's not dying they are afraid off.
It's the torture.
Have you heard of sawing off one's head on live TV?
That's what they were afraid of.

I say they did the right thing by biding their time.

your missing the point that the soldiers swore allegiance to Britain and were there to defend her but instead they were captured by Iran and instead of denouncing Iran they praised Iran , they should be tried for treason .
