Rochester is the headquarters of Kodak camera and films. That city still remains Kodak City despite the advent of digital cameras. For the most part, Kodak has adapted to the changing technology but it is no where as big a corporation as it used to be. As far as the city, Rochester is a blue collar town. Gets really cold in winter, yet during the summer the countryside outside of the city is beautiful. There are other jobs in Rochester outside of Kodak, yet like any upstate NY city the job market is not the best. Check out the daily newspaper there, the Democrat, it's a really good newspaper.
