You need to either:
1) Change the native Windows resolution (right click desktop > properties (or personalize in Vista) and change the screen resolution under APPEARANCE)
or
2) Press F2 on startup (BIOS) and in the video options, change the screen to FILL instead of ASPECT

I have a Dell 3000, but not a laptop. The monitor has a menu button and allows for some adjustments.

I have had occasion to contact Dell in the past and they are pretty good about it. Please go to Dell's support and e-mail or request a chat. They also have a place where you can download manuals or User's Guides.

Before you contact Dell, get out your sales slip, order number, customer number, serial number of laptop, express code, anything to totally identiry you and your laptop. It makes for an easier and quicker response.

Hi there. My suggestion would be to ensure that you have the latest video drivers installed for your laptop. Hold down the Windows key at bottom of your keyboard and press the Pause/Break key at top right to bring up Device Mangler *cough* Manager or just double click System Properties from Control Panel. Select Hardware, then click Device Manager. Select the + symbol to the left of Display Adapter and then visit the vendor's support site for the latest driver. You'll want to restart your computer after you've completed the installation. If this doesn't fix your issue, you might try using the function key along with the key associated with CRT/LCD toggling to ensure that the right video source is being selected by the system.

Hope this helps,

I have the same problem with my notebook, I noticed that if you don't close the top to put it in sleep, it wont do it often. If it does, just change your screen resolution.
