You don't have a cyst, you don't feel a cyst, you're not coughing up a cyst.

I can't answer the question as to what it is, but I do know that it is something that needs to be addressed by a physician. Is there a call box/pay phone close to where you are? If so, that could be a way to avoid having to use the nosy neighbor's phone. If you cannot avoid that, I'd suggest that you report ALL of your symptoms, tagging that one on at the very end as "a _____ (size) swollen/painful/tender lump on perineum" that coughing makes hurt worse. With any luck, the term will go completely over your neighbor's head and it's the perfect one to use because it tells the doctor EXACTLY where the problem is. Good luck to you and I hope that you feel better soon.

Hi Ethie,
It may well be an abscess that you have in your lung. Your physician may have done a CT to look for this "sac of mucous." This would be the best way to assess this.
If nothing has been found on CT, there is likely no intra pulmonary process.
I would actually refer you to a pulmonologist who may or may not want to do a bronchoscopy, or basically take a look in your lung.
Usually infections, such as abscess would cause fever.
However, as I don't know much of your medical history, it is hard to determine.

If you had a cyst in your right lung, the simple act of "expulsion" wouldn't budge that thing one iota.

I get a sharp pain in my left lung--which feels like someone's poked me with a sharp needle or something--but it's generally spasms in the lung tissue. (Not enough of an oxygen flow.)
