The very best thing you can do is invest in a quality Heart Rate Monitor. Focus on keeping your heart rate at 80-90% of your MAX heart rate. Your max heart rate is roughly 220 minute your age.
I used to run and hate it with a passion because I would always push myself too hard and end up going past my Anearobic threshold.
If you keep your heart rate in the proper zone, you'll better condition your heart, lose more fat, AND enjoy your runs a lot more.
For the first time in my life, I was able to run far enough to feel the pain in my legs before I felt like my heart was goign to give out.

can you ask a friend/relative to be a running buddy? Set goals for yourself and see how far you get in an hour or after a week of running. Example; I know the ice cream shop is 5 miles from home and by next week I want to do 2 1/2 miles and work up to 5. Maybe reward yourself. I run 4 miles then buy a smoothie in town before going back home. try running in a pretty garden area of town? Older homes, center of town will give you something to look at while you run. And the less traffic the better probably too. see if maybe your area has a jogging, bike walking path you can use for your running. You might feel better running somewhere rather than endlessly going around the blocks surrounding your home. get the most cushy shoe pillows you can find. And the outfit you want to be seen in would that help you "make it more enjoyable"? buying an outfit knowing you are going to do some good for yourself by running? as always they say new shoes are really not a good idea until they are worn in a bit. running w/ blisters will certainly make you wish for a ride home.
here's to your health.

I think a lot of it depends on your mentality. Some people consider running as a chore or as punishment, in which case they will never enjoy it. If you treat it as freedom, time to go do whatever you want while you exercise, maybe you can enjoy it more. It is possible that you will never like running - some people do, some people don't. But I would say give it a try, find a running buddy and you'll have a better time of it. Personally I love running. Most people think that runners are crazy, but we know the truth, we've just found a sport/lifestyle that transcends human understanding because it's so great :)

When I run and I am not enjoying myself I do sprints. Sprint for 1 min and jog for 2-3. Keep upping your sprint time. Compete with yourself to make it fun.
