NO, you shouldn't share chocolate w/ your dog. Not only is it poison, but it rots their teeth, and you risk diabetes by feeding them such sweet treats. It's fine now, just don't do it anymore.. No need to feel like crap, everyone enjoys chocolate, it's natural to want to share with your friend!

A good-sized dog and a small bit of milk chocolate is nothing to stress over. A miniature and a gob of dark chocolate is a different matter. I used to have a springer spaniel that would catch popcorn in the air. That was entertainment, but for an M&M he'd make catches that would have made Willie Mays proud. But he never got more than a couple, then back to the popcorn.

Well, it may not be good for dogs, but its not really good for people either. My dog has eaten a whole cake once & lots of chocolate. He is now 8 years old, and besides a little arthrites he is perfectly healthy. I dont believe it will hurt your dog. But then again he is a large dog, small dogs have been known to get sick from too many sweets. but a small piece shouldnt hurt. I hope this helped some! :)

For your dogs to ingest enough theobromine(the stuff in chocolate that hurts dogs) to kill them it works out at 1 oz of chocolate per 1lb of your dogs body weight. So if you have a 16lb dog its gonna take a pound of milk chocolate. That is just a guide tho and some dogs are more prone than others. I am fairly sure that you arent feeding your dogs that much. Theobromine is not accumulative in the dogs system , it does come out. I have a 213lb dog so for chocolate to do damage he would need to eat roughly 14lbs. I also have a doberman that weighs roughly 85lbs and she would need to eat about 5lbs of choccie. A small amount of chocolate is alright as a treat, dont over do it but isnt that the rule with all foods for dogs. If you are unsure get some cooking carob buttons as treats for your dog, they are better anyway.

You're not guilty from doing this (well you kinda are)
You're just misunderstood, If you start to see any problems in your dog contact a vet ASAP. Chocolate is like poison to dogs! I hope everything turns out okay, Good Luck!

Everyone will tell you that chocolate can kill dogs, which is the truth....to a point.
My miniature dachshund ate nearly all of a 1/4 pound milk chocolate easter bunny one year and lived to tell the story. She was rushed to the emergency vet and was given drugs to make her vomit the chocolate back up, which she did...in solid chunks. $100 later we were told that milk chocolate is ok, it's the semi sweet and dark you need to watch out for, and they have to eat their body weight in chocolate for it to kill them.
So, now that we know that, we give her small nibbles of chocolate on occassion, mostly just m&m's, but that's it, and she's fine.

Depends on the size of your dog and how much. But any chocolate is not good period. It's really bad for dogs. So i would suggest to stop doing that before you dog ends up sick.

Sure, feed the chocolate if you want to kill the dog. Chocolate is very toxic to dogs and can easily kill a small dog within minutes of consuming chocolate.

If it was an accident, and you will never do it again...OK.
But be warned, it doesn't kill them instantly, but builds toxins in their bodies over time, I believe it affects the liver. But don't quote me on that.
If you're looking to treat your dog with something sweet, try looking for carob. That is a chocolate substitute that tastes similar to chocolate and is perfectly safe. Not too much of it though. My experience with too much carob was a bit...er...messy. Check your pet store and see if they sell it with the dog treats.
But for the sake of you dog...No more people chocolate. At best, it'll make them sick. At worst, it's deadly.
