Right now the only ways I know to flavour rice is with soup base or curry. What are other types of powders that can be added to rice while boiling?

I should have mentioned I don't eat animal flavourings, but the answers are helpful anyway.

Have you heard of Briyani or Biryani Rice?

Biryani is a rice dish from the Indian Subcontinent made from a mixture of spices, basmati rice, meat/vegetables and yogurt. There are many kind of biryanis and each kind has an uniqueness about it. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, from East India to West India, there are different varieties of the dish. It can be considered a casserole dish, as the ingredients are ideally cooked together in the final phase and is time-consuming to prepare.

You can get the Biryani Mix here and it is very easy to prepare, just in 3 simple steps:
1. Heat 3 tbsp ghee in rice cooker, and fry 50g MAGGI Briyani Rice Mix until aromatic.

2. Stir in 2 cups rice (washed and drained) and 300g chicken until well-coated with mixture.

3. Add 2 1/2 cups water and stir. Cook until rice and chicken are done.

Now your briyani rice is ready to serve!

You can sautee some onions, sliced garlic and ginger, mint leaves, and /or whole spices like cinnamon, bay leaves and cloves.

Add sautaed flavourings to rice and prepare as usual.

I like to substitute part of the water used to cook the rice with lemon juice or skimmed milk or well beaten natural yogurt.

An easy one is cumin. It gives it a spicy Mexican type flavour. Also try coconut milk in the water for a change of pace. Or try saffron or some type of onion powder.

go ot the store and buy 1 pack of pesto mix (preferably the creamy pesto mix one) and just mix it into the rice.

or you can go fancy, go out to the store and buy saffron, mix a few strans into the hot rice.

(i know this sounds weird but its really good)
mix in some ketchup and honey

Simple rice that can go with anything, add some rice vinegar to give it some tang.

You can buy lemon pepper and use that in your rice.

you can make chili and mix that into the rice for a dirty rice type of thing.
