I work at walmart and today at work someone "proposed" to their girl over the intercome. When she came to the register she was embarrised so was kinda yelling at him because she was at work but she said yes and he lifted her in the air. the weird thing was though that he never got down on one knee and there was no ring either. am i wrong to think that without a ring its not a true engagement?

i understand some people can't afford one but i kind of think that even if he put twisty ties together and said it was until they got real ones it would be kind of more real. i do understand its just symbolism and not necessary but i think if your going for a romantic way of asking then you should seal it with a ring.

i'm w/ you. I believe there needs to be a ring to seal the deal.

engagement rings was just an advertising ploy invented by DeBeers jewelers years ago. An engagement ring is not needed at all.

They are just like birthday card ( a marketing ploy) so with that, is it still your birthday if you don't get any birthday cards?

However I do think it is a rather tacky way to propose and I think I would probably have had said no

If the two of them intend to get married, and he asked and she said yes....then they are engaged. Some people can't afford rings. Does that make them any less engaged?

It doesn't sound like one to me but tradition does not rule over everyone when they propose.
