what are you talking about? most, if not all, anorexics DO exercise...often excessively. There are a TON of girls nowadays who "call themself" anorexic, but clearly AREN'T. They're wannabe anorexics...which is incredibly strange and F***ed up, if they knew what it was really like they would not pretend or claim or want to be anorexic.
So what you're saying is partially true, i think. real anorexics are pretty rare, and there are a lot of girls out there who just diet and want to be/pretend to be anorexic.

Such ignorance.
Anorexia IS a mental disorder. If you don't believe it is, then don't call it Anorexia, call it a lifestyle choice and sheer stupidity.
The truth is Anorexia falls into a category of body image/obsessive compulsive type disorders. It is often a combination of psychological and biological factors that cause it, meaning some people have a chemical imbalance in their brains which causes them to develop these types of disorder plus the fact that they are facing issues in their everyday life which can trigger off an eating disorder.
So unless you have actually been through an eating disorder yourself, I think you should just keep your opinions to yourself.

Okay, let's see. Well, there are always some wannabes out there, but we are not talking about them.
"...anorexics are people who, just like many of us, feel pressured to be thin." Yes. BUT -- MOST of us would wait until we were at least slightly overweight and/or out of shape before we would feel compelled to pursue corrective measures.
Further, I think that you will find that many anorexics combine exercise with starvation insofar as they are able.
Look at it again. I know it's hard to be sympathetic when someone is "just" acting irrationally, but neither the problem nor the solution ARE rational.

I would think that there has to be a genetic link that would allow an intelligent person (not of diminished capacity) to partake in a practice which is so self destructive and in some cases permanently retard the endocrine system and in others cause death. to me it totally goes against human nature to be compelled to do something when you "know" it is the most unhealthy thing you can do to the body.
personally I have an ex gf that is permanently fubar from being anorexic and bulimic in high school she graduated in 1990. it cost here a NCAA track scholarship and now here health. now at 34 she can barely hold a job because she suffers from chronic depression because her endocrine system is wacked and her memory is mush from all the prescription drugs she has to take. one of my other buddies who's older sister who was not only super smart but was a up and coming ballet dancer suffers from anorexia. 21 years later she is still nothing but skin and bones, such a waste...

actually it's ONLY phsychological ilness, if you are just restrciting your calorie intake you cannot be called anorexic. take it from a 74 pound going on 3 yeras anorexic, they think i recovered and i didn't! becuase you wanan know why it goes on forever. and if it wasn't a phsychological illness people would be done when they reached their goal weight you know whatmy goal weigh was?! 99 lbs. but i'm at 74 and still going. becuase i have no other way to deal with stress. i deal with my alcoholic dad through food and it makes me feel better just like cutting or other self harms, they dont do it becuase their lazy and are bored, they do it to cope with stress.
and as for too lazy to excercise. i limit myself to 100 cal a day and excercise at least an hour and half in fact almost every anorexic i've met in recovery excercised at leat an hour a day
so dont say their too lazy
we do everything in our willpower to lose the fat we think we have even if were emacitaed, in my case.
it never ends
so yeah i'd say it was a physcholoigcal illness not just a diet. for "lazy people"

i disagree, i have delt with anorexia for years and never though i was fat or had to be thin. no one every told me i need to be a certain size, i just had this thing where i looked at food and it made me sick. i never wanted to eat or be around food and i didn't know why. it took me years to get help and become better, not only that i had to show everyone that i didn't really want to live like this and i wasn't doing it to myself to be thin, like everyone else thinks. its a really hard thing to go through and I'm very lucky that i pulled out.

so starving yourself to be skinny isn't psychological? hmm interesting. of course it is. they think they are fat and they don't eat even though they have absolutely no fat on their bodies.
