First make a food diary, every time you put fork to mouth record it and every time you sip a drink record it. Keep record of amounts, when you ate or drink and what you were feeling at the time. After 3 days count the calories and fat for each day, there are many food to calorie counters online.
Losing weight is simple mathematics, if you put more in then you expend then you will end up with assess. Once you have counted your calories and fat decide how much you wish to lose per week. A good rule of thumb is to keep it anywhere from 1/2 lb to 2 lbs a week. Any higher and you will more then likely end up back where you were before and then some. Take it from someone who has been there.
Some easy ways to cut calories:
Cut out sugary sodas. If you drink soda switch to diet or even better water.
Try to drink at least 8 eight ounce glasses of water a day. Water helps keep you full and keeps your liver fully functional.
Do not deprive yourself of things you really love, but don't overindulge have a little. This one is basically saying don't punish yourself. But eating 3 chocolate chip cookies a day is overindulgence, even everyday isn't that hot. Try once a week, and for something decadent once a month.
Fast food rarely has good choices and when they do it's too tempting to order a grease burger. How many times have you decided to order a salad only to change your mind a split second later?
Do not skip breakfast. Breakfast means exactly what the word says "break" the "fast". Your body is programmed to eat every couple of hours and, of course, you don't eat when your sleeping; breakfast jump-starts the metabolism.
Exercise. Seems like a chore eh? I never have time, etc. Soo many excuses we all have. The fact is exercise is something we have to make time for. You have to eat and drink its voluntary, exercise needs to be that way too. Start off small, recommended 30 minutes 3 times a week to maintain weight, and 30 minutes more then 3 times a week to lose weight. To get into habit try doing it 5 minutes a day....just take a walk around the block etc. Increase the next week to 15 minutes...you get the idea. Exercise has to be a habit formed.
A side note...I am being a hypocrite here, I should follow my own advise but easier said then done! So many of us have this issue, its a mind over matter thing. good luck!

Dude, it's very simple. You already know - maybe you don't know about carbs and stuff - but you know vegetables and exercise are good, and ice-cream is bad.
Here's what I did - and I drive a truck so I can't exercise at all, and the weight just POURS off. I went totally vegetarian - no dressing. If I'm not satisfied, I drink a water and eat more salad, or a cucumber or a carrot. On the weekend I binge on whatever I want for a single meal so I don't go stark raving mad, and then back on the diet. I measure success in belt loops.
The biggest thing is avoiding temptation. Don't buy ANY food that's not on your diet.
Exercise if you can - cardio - jogging or the treadmill, at least 20 minutes, but 40 is best. If you can't run, jog, if you can't jog, walk fast, if you can't do that, walk slow up a hill - do whatever you can do, and do it every OTHER day - so your body has a chance to heal.
Well, that's all I got, write me if you need anything more.
