like most trees, trees in forests take the carbon dioxide out of the air. When you have forests, you have more trees to do that, and you get better air. Also, lots of important plants and animals live there.

For so many reasons, many of which have already been answered, but an important few that haven't is that they are a huge economic commodity and also many cures for human aliments have and are still being discovered in forests.
