Jesus has called us to go forth and spread the message of love and hope and peace. Yet, there are many people confused and argumentitive in the world today. The sad thing is that they are calling themselves Christians. Why can we not simply do as the Bible instructs us to do. It is not our job to convert others to Christ. It is His job. And He is better at it than we will ever be. All we have to do is tell people of His goodness and mercy and grace. Not threaten them with burning in hell or beating them up with scripture after scripture. That only deepens the disdain for Christians and Christianity in general. If we walk the talk and talk the walk, then that is the example we need to set. Not how much of the Bible we know and can recite. Satan knows the Bible also.
Normally I don't ask many questions. But this is one that has been on my heart for some time now. Please do me a favor and try to keep the snide and rude and offensive comments to a minimum. Thanks.

I feel your tender heart toward the world. My dear friend, you are the light of the world and this world would be much darker without you in it. Don't get discourage keep your faith and I'll keep mine. The world is a dark place but our presence does help more than you realize. Be of good cheer, child of God and continue to do good. God Bless.

Simple answer to the basic question: men love the darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil and the light exposes evil for what it is. Read John 3:18-21. It is the Christian's primary duty to spread the gospel so that others come to Christ. We are not responsible for whether the lost accept or reject the gospel message. That is their own responsibility. I don't know any Christians who threaten people with burning in hell, but I know plenty of scriptures that do. I don't know any Christians who beat up someone with the scriptures, but I know the truth of the scriptures can hurt sometimes. This accusation on all Christians is, to me, a fable propogated by the enemy of Christ. The message of the church today is one of love, forgiveness, and hope for those who have no hope. I don't understand why some people on this web site continually acuse Christians as agressive, Bible thumpers. If anything, the Christians I have known over the years are too quiet about the hope that lies within them. Sharing the gospel is the most loving thing a human can do. It has eternal consequences. This sharing of the gospel is not a negative activity but can be a most beautiful experience for the listener. I just don't believe there is a multitude of Christians out there meanly attacking the lost. That would certainly defeat the purpose God leaves us here on earth.

We haven't set a very good example, particularly during the colonial era, when so many non-Christian countries were subjugated and exploited. We may never live it down. Islam enjoys rapid expansion in Africa where we have largely failed, primarily because it does not bear the onus of "white man's religion". Even today,U.S. corporations and U.S.-associated multi-national corporations ruthlessly exploit the non-Christian world for cheap labor, one could even say slave labor if you're talking children. Look at the Philipinnes. Those are American companies from a supposedly Christian country; they actually buy children outright from impoverished families then work them 16 hours a day,6 days a week, making toys on the assembly line for US kids. These countries know they are being exploited - and they know they don't see any Christian organizations trying to end these vile practices. It's a question of practice what you preach. Some Christians join groups like Amnesty International or Human Rights Watch - but most do not. But where are specifically Christian human rights organizations while all this goes on? Be a light unto the world? We're not even trying.

This is only a partial answer and in no wise critical. Wasn't Jesus the light, the way, the truth and the life. Yet He had disciples who denied Him, betrayed Him and forsook Him. Even the very people He came to, disowned Him. His light did not cast away all the darkness, did it? No. Then nor would we. In Matthew 28:10 "Go ye into all the world and teach the gospel....." Our job is to tell them whether they hear or fore bare. The Holy Spirit has to convict men and women before they could accept the good news. So you can preach until you drop, if the Holy Spirit doesn't prepare the heart, nothing you nor anyone say would make a difference. Many times, we want to preach a person to heaven, not living the life for ourselves that people can see Christ in and through us. We say one thing and do another, that is why our witnessing is ineffective and not anointed. Obedience plays a very important role in our day to day lives and if we are sensitive to the Holy Spirit, many lives will be won for the Kingdom of God. For example, love....go give someone a tract or tell them Jesus loves them. Many a time that person has nothing to eat, or no where to live. My philosophy is loving a person to God than preaching them to death. I am not saying that we shouldn't tell people about God, but whatever we do, remember LOVE is the key factor in reaching others to the Kingdom. Love, be bless.

Most christian mean well when they do this, and i know what you mean, i was raised Baptist, and I am still one. But some people if you sit and sugar coat somethings, and people don't have any idea what could happen if they should die with out being saved , some would never think about it.....But Jesus did say to go and make disciples and spread the word, and do more and better things than he did when he was on earth... and also
Jesus said, "Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out-those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned." (John 5:28-30)
I feel he did want people to know just how bad it's going to be if they go to hell, and some people really have to be beat over the head with the information for them to get it. I was one of them.

It is His word that convicts the heart. We cannot walk the walk or talk the talk if we don't know what that walk and talk is. That's like saying we're doctors but have never studied medicine. I can pretend I'm a doctor all I want, but that's not going to get you to believe me. His Word must be known and taught along with living by example. It is our job to convert others to Christ without "beating them up w/scripture after scripture", but in love. How can we convert w/o His word? Going by feeling what is right is not firm foundation. You're right, we're not to be argumentive, but firm in Christ. Yes, Satan does know the Bible, but that doesn't make him a disciple. "Burning in hell" is just as much a reality as everlasting life in Heaven, but shouldn't be the focus for one to become a Christian. I think that this question is good that it's been on your heart.

The world is currently in the "dark" because we've been turning away from the lessons of the great thinkers of the Age of Enlightenment.

"....the historical intellectual movement The Enlightenment, which advocated Reason as the primary basis of authority. As a movement it occurred solely in Germany, France, Britain, and Spain, but its influence spread beyond. Many of the Founding Fathers of the United States were also heavily influenced by Enlightenment era ideas, particularly in the religious sphere (Deism) and, in parallel also to the French Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, in the governmental sphere with the United States Bill of Rights."

Well if we truly and honestly are Christians
then we should not be in darkness
at all no
And some choose their own destination and
they choose not the way of the Lord
and reason why they are
in darkness because the chose
it for themselves

Even thou they may have heard the way to
heaven is Jesus
and they may want nothing to do with Jesus

Maybe it's the way (and how) you "deliver the message". You people aren't the only ones on this planet, and everyone is entitled to their opinions. You people do have a way of crossing the line by telling others how to live therefore infringing on their own beliefs.

What you people do not realize is that getting to unwillingly change someone else's mind is a sin greater than any other sin. So, if you ever decide to enlighten anyone else by "preaching your Gospel" to them, DON'T!!!

Jesus is the light of the world, we are the children of God not the lamp holders ; each and every human creation was given the choice of free will ; to choose or not to choose ; it is a gift that people are spending or wasting each and every day ; just because someone holds a bible in their hand doesn't mean that they understand the meaning; Jesus came for our salvation to save us from sin and give us the promise of life eternal if we believe, without seeing; the holy spirit is left here on earth , Jesus is not ; Jesus is in heaven with the father until the end of the world or Judgment; God gave the gift of freedom of choice , to choose to believe or not; how each person spends his gift is an individual choice; each and every person has the right to speak directly to God, Jesus or the Holy Spirit , you don't need the middle man ; you can only follow the messenger , Jesus , to be on the right path ; everyone that shoves religion down your throat is trying to change your gift from God , freedom to choose how to live, love and follow God's laws.
