I have been taking three supplements in an effort to strengthen my immune system, in an attempt to improve my overall health and prevent all the things that keep happening to my body as a result of a weak immune system. I am taking Immune Stimulator, Protease Plus and Paw Paw Cell Reg. Anyone know if these really work on abnormal cells and stimulate the immune defense system? I sure would appreciate any information you could provide. Cheers.

Shoenster, I have a website link to the research department at Purdue University regarding Paw Paw and cancer treatment, and when I emailed them, they directed me to Nature's Sunshine where the supplements are produced. I would appreciate your input as you have an extensive chemistry and pharmacology background. You are a great resource, and I would appreciate your help. Thank you so much! Email me if you would, I would appreciate it. Cheers!

The problem with those products (as with most natural health products) is there do not appear any concrete studies to verify their effectiveness in terms of the immune system. It is believed they may help, and it is plausible that it may help for some and not others. Protease Plus seems like it should assist with digestion at the very least.
I would suggest you try Echinacea. It has proven immune system stimulating properties and is generally a well tolerated herbal product. Just make sure that you are buying Echinacea purpurea and that it contains the aerial part of the plant (normally says this on the package). Green tea appears to also stimulate the immune system.
Other methods of strengthening the immune system include: exercise, antioxidants (such as Vitamin C, E foods or supplementation - pomengranate juice has a higher level of antioxidants than most other juices), relaxation/stress reduction and getting enough sleep hours.
Be sure to follow sterilization procedures in your home (clean door handles and counter tops with bleach). Do frequent and effective hand washing (it is incredible easy to pick things up) with an antibacterial soap. Bring hand sanitizers like Purel when you go out. Picking something up on your hands is a very easy way to get ill (bacteria, virus). Perhaps even wear thin gloves when outside the home.
I also assume that you have been speaking to your doctor regarding this. A low immune system may be secondary to another condition that may require attention. They may also suggest appropriate drug treatment.

Lots of Vitamin C. Do you take vitamin supplements? If you don't, I suggest you start. And you're immune system isn't just OK, it's great. The average person gets a cold about every two months. Twice a year is about every six months. That's really good.

It's understandable that you want to keep your immune system strong, but I think some of these herbal remedies really aren't what there cut out to be...why don't u take a more simplified routine of a higher dose of vitamin C., like 1,000 mg. a day, and use a high dose of a B Complex, which both have to do with your immune system, and B Complex is great for stress, and stress can cause your immune system to weaken. C is great for colds, stress, and much more. Or maybe just take a high potency vitamin, in conjuction with the other 2. I've never had to much luck with herbal remedies, but vitamins can sometimes do the trick. If u have skin problems, dry skin, etc., vitamin E is excellent taken internally as well as external.. Good-Luck, you might even want to ask your physician if these products would help your particular situation.

Well even I have low immune system and due to which I tend to have lot of cold and cough problems very often. On my doctors suggestion I have started the consumption of Cod liver supplement capsules from Seacod which are absolutely Vitamin A & D rich source of capsules for people like me. These capsules have helped me a lot to recover onto my cold and cough issues without causing any infections or side effects. I would strongly recommend them. For more information on them visit http://www.seacod.com/

I don't know a lot about paw paw, but you can try N AC by bio-chem- I had a very nasty cold that took awhile to go away something that normally does not happen to me, but it stayed for a while so I tried NAC 750 mg, and it went away almost immediately, it's about $12.00 and Olive leaf Extract with at least 6%olepurin inside, with lemon and olive oil- I take olive oil straight sometimes, I don't know if you ever Emergen -C it is crystallized vitamin C 1500mg about a $1.00 pkg and it comes in various flavors as well.

Vit. C is still the best bet. There are a number of (Indian systems of medicine) tonics in Ayurvedha for purifying the blood - I remember one called 'Safi' many years ago. Generally the leaves and roots of the plant called Tinospora cordifolia is also good, but whether you get it in US of A, I doubt. Try with herbalists.

There is no evidence any of these presumed "boosters" or supplements work in any way at all. Otherwise, I wouldn't have patients...!
