Dress smart, don't deny what happened and try not to burst out emotionally right off the bat.... Being composed and professional will get you further. State all of the facts, and be honest, really the best thing to hope for is a reduced fine and no points. Even the full fine without points is going to be a good thing. Good luck!! And be safe!!

I was rooting for you until you said you had a pretty bad driving record. It will depend on the judge. You have quite a bit out of the ordinary going against you. #1 You have a history of bad driving. #2 You had a safety issue and were aware of it and drove anyway, endangering yourself and others. #3 You were speeding WHILE knowingly using faulty equipment.
Play up the poor single mom angle. It's really all you have going for you. Maybe the policeman won't show up to testify.

did you tell the cop that your dash light just quite working and that you were estimating your speed, or did you tell him its been broken for a while and you just let it go depends on what you told the cop cause on most vehicle problems like a headlight can go out at the least convenient time you can get off if you show them you fixed the problem with in 7 days of the ticket......

If you have a bad record I really don't know what to tell you. If it was your first offense you could probably get it dropped but seeing as you've had quite a few I'm figuring that you will probably have to pay for the ticket.

Try the dash light defense using your repair receipt as evidence. be courteous, apologetic, and hope the judge is having a good day.
Good Luck!

They might say because you put it off you were driving a car intentionally with a safety defect, and charge you with that. Might be a lesser charge than the speeding, though, and they might replace the speeding with that, instead of adding it to the list, but you'd have to hope on that one.

Take your receipt to court. Sometimes they will dismiss it if they see that one has corrected the problems. Just be polite at all times at court. When you are ready to ask for the ticket to be dismissed make sure to Say, I respectfully ask that this ticket is dismissed, please" and then explain the whole situation.
