I got pulled over a couple months ago for going 38 in a 25 I still don't believe I was going that fast.. anyways my dash lights were all burnt out when I went to the dealership they told me it was some switch and it would cost about 300 to fix I couldn't afford it so i put it off. well the night I was pulled over I was on a very very dark road no other cars were on that road at the time I could not see any of the dash. .Since then I have gotten the lights fixed and I have a receipt it was actually my bulbs and I got it done for way less than what the dealership quoted. I can't get this ticket I have a pretty bad driving record and if I get another moving violation dmv will suspend me for 45 days and I'm a single mom who works fulltime and I take my daughter to school everyday..
please tell me what you think I should do I'm so nervous about court and I really believe I'm not guilty help!!!

You were still speeding, despite your additional negligence, hopefully you will be able to get a "red" license so you can still drive to work.

If your driving record is that bad, you above all people should be driving with extreme caution. Just say the lights went out on your dash as you were driving, and show the proof that it was fixed. Hopefully right away. It may not be a great defense, but it wouldn't hurt to try. Driving without dash lights could constitute an unsafe motor vehicle. Worse case scenario, if your license does get suspended. Explain that you need to drive everyday. You might be able to get a restricted, or hardship license.

In the past I've plead guilty and requested ajudication of the points, that means you get charged the fine but not the points. You can also request to take drivers school, if you're eligible and you won't get points on your drivers license. If they threaten to suspend your license, plead with the judge and explain your situation that you are a single mother and have to drive your daughter to school and you need a way to get to work, and that there's no one else that can do this for you, the sympathy vote might work in your favor. Another choice is to hire a place like a ticket clinic, for $99 they will go to court for you and they promise to get your ticket dismissed or no points. Trust me $99 is cheap, because you can get a fine of much more by the judge, I ended up paying $100 court fine and no points. Usually companies and attorneys find out you have a speeding ticket will send you numerous amounts of junk mail advertising a way to get you out of the ticket and they will go in your place. I don't know what state you're in but I've attached the link for you to check them out.

If you can afford it hire a lawyer you should do it. If it is going to cost you your license then you might need to. The excuse of the lights on the dash not working will not help you. You might try it and show the judge the receipt and beg him for mercy. But I don't think it will work. If you rely on the cop not showing up you are kidding yourself. They get paid to be there and so he will be there.

Wow.... Explain how the bulbs burnt out and that you didn't think you were speeding... Do not accuse the officer of not clocking you properly or anything like that. Chances are that you were doing the speed he said. Apologize, show the receipts for getting the light fixed and ask for supervision. Good luck with it.

Well if the cop had his dashcam on or if he had it on his radar he has proof you were going that fast. I wouldn't worry about it though. I doubt the cop will even show up. Half the time they don't. If this is the case the ticket is dropped. Most cops figure it's not worth it.

Was there anyone in the car with you that's not a minor? if so see if you can bring them with you. I hope you can get the ticket over turned.

Good luck!

At this point, you can take the reciept and talk to the judge. . . giving him all of your circumstances and he MIGHT take this into consideration.
The biggest thing against you is your record.
Tell the judge that you have had a "lead foot" in the past and that you have been trying to do better because you can't afford to lose your license and that this dark dashboard was something you weren't aware of.

Good Luck

You're pretty much screwed. Go online and do some research and see if the officer made any mistakes in filling out the ticket or follow-up paperwork. If so, you could get off on a technicality.

If not, wear something low-cut, cry and beg for mercy.

If the officer who gave you the ticket doesn't show up, case dismissed! Otherwise I don't think you have much of a chance. If you do have a genuine hardship case where you need the car then the DMV will probably allow you to keep a restricted license for taking your daughter to school and going to and from work, if there's no other transport alternative.
