This question has been asked before, but I will say that what you are suggesting is not possible. God IS real. The proof is all around you. Even without looking at the proof, I have seen evidence of His existence by the miraculous ways He has worked in people's lives. God's real. There is no way it can be proven that He is NOT real. Many have tried - it can't be done. I don't care what others will say about that - there is no way that anyone can disprove the existence of God. There are however, many ways one can prove He does exist. There is no way that with the complexities of life, nature, the way our brains think and operate, the way the moon affects our tides and the sun is at the perfect balance from the earth - all these things support the idea of "intelligent design" versus random accident. Another person answered this same question so brilliantly. He was an atheist who set out to prove the non-existence of God. What he discovered was the absolute proof that there HAS to be a God. I would never feel stupid praying and asking forgiveness from God.

Finally, suppose I am wrong and there is no God (impossible, but let's suppose anyway). What will it hurt me to die with hope rather than with fear and with peace rather than with anxiety? Nothing will happen to me. I will simply be dead forever and cease to exist. Now suppose I am right and there IS a God. Then my beliefs and prayers and asking Him for forgiveness will have been a good thing because then I will be able to spend eternity in Heaven with God instead of in hell, apart from God. Which would YOU rather be wrong about? Me?? I'll gladly take my chances on being wrong about believing in God, versus being wrong about disbelieving in Him. Just the same, I'm not really taking any chances. I'm making a stand on a sure thing.

No way. What someone who isn't a Christian doesn't know is the work of the Holy Spirit within the Christian. The Holy Spirit bears witness to the reality of God, Christ, the Word, etc. It's something you only know when you become a Christian. That's why the Bible is as foolishness to the lost....they cannot understand the mysteries that are within the meanings of so many things God has to tell us. He only guarantees that any lost person can understand how to come to God and receive Jesus as their Savior. If a person chooses to do so, a whole new spiritual understanding is given that person because the Holy Spirit comes to dwell inside them. That's when you completely and always know there is a God and you begin to have a personal relationship with Him. You are aware of His presence and His direction for your life. It's a wonderful thing and nothing can remove you from that reality. In the meantime, Christians are left on earth to testify that God is real and what He has done in their lives so that others will believe and come to Christ. Good question and God bless you.

Actually the question could be asked in reverse. I am happy and fulfilled. I am doing something with my life instead of working for the almighty dollar.
A person will never have enough money. There is always a new version or something bigger, better, and more expensive to buy.

I would rather live this life happy and fulfilled then leaving this life to find nothing. Than the opposite.

Oh, by the way is it possible to prove the non- existence of something.

Great question!

Hypothetically, If God is not real, and we are just body and mind created by sexual intercourse, which dies forever at death: The following is a logical extension of that purport.
1) Life has no consequence
2) As life contains lots of suffering, suicide is the logical way of avoiding it
3) Killing would carry no consequence, and as long as society didn't capture you. Therefore, don't get caught doing anything and your fine.

However, the Universe could not have come from nothing, as that is against the law of thermodynamics lol. The only logical explanation for the existence of our universe is that a supreme being of endless energy whom has existed always created our universe for some reason. If no God exists, then the universe must have just somehow come from nothing. And you dont' get something from nothing. To go against that logic, is to abrogate reason itself. Also, your hypothetical question is flawed from a logical standpoint. If something is not detectable, how are you supposed to disprove it (we live in a material world, and God resides in a spiritual domain which is undetectable by physical means). Also, it wouldn't be wise to prey for forgiveness. It is best to earn forgiveness by penance. You don't get something from nothing (that goes for forgiveness as well). God knows all thoughts of living beings (comes with being omnipotent), so praying to obtain favour from God is not necessary.

Now now. Religious is necessary for the masses. It is a crutch that without it they would have nothing to base their morals on. No one wants a lot of blood thirsty ex-christians running around wtih no moral code to keep them from killing.

So even if sometime in the future it is proven that there is no god, they would not be embarrassed they prayed but glad that the thought that there was a god got them through that tough time. They'd be glad that prayer was there for them when they didn't know what else to do. Some people need religion. It's not their fault. After all, the world requires the strong in order to know the weak, the pain in order to know the pleasure.

You know placebo pills have been proven to work. And who is to say that aspirin gets rid of your headache or is it just the fact that you believe that the aspirin will get rid of your headache that helps it go away?

Austen you are asking a great question. Everyone has to make that step to believe in God and Christ. It is something I just know in my heart and my soul. Can I prove to you he is real? No!!! But what I can ask is for you to research the Bible and search your mind and soul. See what you honestly find out after extensive research. Not just talking on yahoo.

I can tell you this, God loves you as much as he loves me. Your a lost lamb and he is waiting for you. He worries about you even though you don't believe. My best wishes with your journey through life.

Being not sure if there is a God, and awaiting further proof before making a decision while not practicing any religion is Agnostic.

Being not sure if there is a God, but praying to him just in case he exists is an Agnostic who is playing it safe. However, if God does exist he would know that such an Agnostic was just playing it safe.

My faith and belief allows me to know that he is real. I would feel more than stupid if I did not except Him into my heart and then his truth and word be revealed and then I am left out. He has given us all signs wonders and miracles. Most of all free will. Choosing not to believe is a choice free will. So many people question his existence, In my opinion people question his existence because there is evidence of Him. If not, this question would not have been asked by many people.

So you said, when you see him, you will believe in him?? i think you'll be in awe of him. But, Too bad he is real then huh?? He does care for you, he sent his son to die on the cross for him. He could have easily said no, but you were on his mind, as the rest of this sinning world. He did it for you, if you can't accept that he payed for your sins, then you will go to hell. Sorry if that offended you, but its the truth. Many "religions" have said the world was going to end, guess what, we're still here. the BIBLE says we don't know the day, hour, or minute our savior comes, but he will. If you won't read the whole bible, at least read Revelations, and understand what it's saying. The prophesies that have already come true are there, as the big flood (typoons in asia) and many other things. The sign of the beast is located in the right hand, that is the chips, which in the future you won't be able to do anything without it, but it's not good. Read it for yourself if you don't believe..

It depends what I had been praying for. If I had been praying for others, then I would not feel stupid, but would continue to have good wishes, if not prayers, for them. If I had been praying for something for myself, again I would not feel stupid but would be motivated to become more self reliant and not dependent on an outside force.

As for asking for forgiveness, I would probably be relieved that all the guilt I had been carrying because I felt I had offended "God" had been removed.
