Why would His enemies say "he must have the devil in him", seeing as the devil supposedly never helps ppl?

Because His enemies had the devil in them.
Read John's Gospel, chapter 8, verses 31-59

The religious leader of Jesus' day, the Pharisees were always harping on about Jesus. They even tried to kill him. They saw what they wanted to see and refuse to believe that Jesus was the Son of God, even though they knew what the prophets had said. Blind as bats they were. Mean too.

It was said to denounce him. It was also said because he was going against the main religion of the time and people didn't believe he was the Messiah until after he was resurrected.

The prophecy said he was to come from Bethlehem. Jesus did come from there, but most thought he was from Galilee.....
