I don't know of anyone else who can commit crime after crime and be above the law. When will these hypocrites that make the laws , change them, and prosecute these damn priests. Nothing in this world has ever upset me more than this one issue. I have NO FORGIVENESS for anyone who hurts little children.

I'm with you. Its worse too, becase they're in a position that requires trust...and they've abused it to the worst degree.

That's one of the reasons I'm not too fond of the new pope. He was the guy who threatened bishops with excommunication unless they helped cover up the molestation scandals in 2001.

There needs to be a massive re-evaluation concerning the reason for the church's existence. It is to comfort the sick, mourn with those who mourn, help the orphan, etc.

When it just comes down to a list of do's and don't's then the system protects the doers who do the wrong thing, there's something wrong.

Child rape and molestation happens, not just in the church, but in society as well. To assume that someone is immune from those problems just because they're hidden inside a religious institution or system is not the best thing to do.

The church appears to be slowly coming clean about these and other things that have happened, which is good. BUT, what safeguards have been put in place to ensure that it doesn't happen again?

The Catholic church is crying out for men to become priests. So, what sort of vetting process will the church go through to ensure that it protects it's members from potential harm? Before God, it has a responsibility to ensure that it places no one in harm's way.

A very small percent of priests -- no more than the across the board slice of all professions. In fact Protestant ministers and especially Baptists statistically have been found to be worse abusers but, they don't have access to as much money so you don't see every Tom Dick and Harry money grubber piling on the gravy train sort of speak trying to put over bogus claims as even some on this site have proclaimed. It is not just priests so it makes me wonder what exactly is your agenda? Hmmmm?

As an abused child the answer should be very simple, but it is a complicated issue.
Usually the child doesn't tell, Then when he/she does, no one wants to believe her/him.
The Catholic Church has lots of good attorneys and a lot of money.
They move priests around instead of firing them. Some have been fired, but the cardinals have protected the priests in the past and the pope protects the cardinals.
The priests that abuse children are predators (pedophiles) and probably won't stop on their own. They have a mental illness and need help. If no one accuses them of wrong doing they never stop or get help.

I used to hold resentment against my abuser. I learned through therapy that unforgiveness only hurts me... not them, since they are obsessed with continuing and won't stop they usually have more concern with their next victim than they do with personal remorse. I have learned to work to stop them rather than harbor ill will.
Thanks for your question
God bless, Janie

Your question is most unfair. Don't you read the news? There have been some convictions and the Vatican is investigating the matter expeditiously. Expect disciplinary mesasures to be im plemented soon.

Anti-Catholics suffer from the mistaken notion that the Church includes only saints. For them sinners should always be outside its doors. What must be grasped is that the Catholic Church or any Church for that matter contains within itself knaves, and some of them obtain positions of responsibility. Paul and Christ himself warned us that there would be a few ravenous wolves among Church leaders (Acts 20,29; Matthew 1,15).

Jesus didn't choose Judas to betray him. But Judas was always free, and he used his freedom to allow Satan to enter into him, and by his betrayal Jesus was crucified and executed. But God foresaw this evil and used it to accomplish the ultimate good: the redemption of the world.

The point is, sometimes God's chosen ones betray him. That is a fact that we have to confront. If the early Christians had focused only on the scandal caused by Judas, the Church would have been finished before it even started to grow. Instead they recognized that you don't judge a movement by those who don't live it but by those who do. Rather than focusing on the betrayer, they focused on the other eleven on account of whose work, preaching, miracles, and love for Christ we are here today. It is on account of the other eleven that Christianity is alive and well today!

For the same reason, it is on account of the good popes, priests and lay people that the Catholic Church is what it is today. Christ has indeed kept his promise to be with his Church till the end of the age.

May the Lord's peace be with you!

I don't think they get away with it, but I did ask what happens to them on questions and answers awhile back. I never got one answer that told me.
Maybe there's no priest s out there on the net, cause the pope thinks it's a bad influence on religious people.
Too bad if he makes it a sin, but then What do I care?

I know cases of priests being convicted for all sorts of different crimes. If there's one thing they aren't, that's above the law...

They get away with this because of Lawyers
and Judges who stand beside them

And those priests are above the law

Please do a Google search on "priestly abuse" and you'll see that many priests have been prosecuted for their offenses, and the church has paid out hundreds of millions of dollars in reparations, to the victims.

Your impression is mistaken, and it appears to be so, on purpose.

I hope your views on abortion mirror your concerns for abused children.

Priests are not above the law. If you know of an incident that should be reported, then report it. Otherwise don't try to publicly attempt to defame ALL priests in here.

have a nice day. :-)

As Jesus always said, no matter what these priests do to anyone, forgive endlessly. However, these priests are not in their right minds. They are supposed to follow the Lord, not to commit sexual immorality. They are not true priests.
