Hi, is it possible for people to tell you you're thin, but when you're alone in front of the mirror you're not happy with your image and feel fat? My friends are making a big deal out of me telling me I'm trying to lose 10 lbs because I have a small hanging stomach. I go to the gym and eat 1000-1200 calories everyday, healthy food. I'm not really that confident with my body and I really think if i were to lose those 10 lbs I would gain a lot more of confidence and feel better about myself?
I'm 5'5, 17, 108 lbs

According to your BMI, if you're 108 lbs and are 5'5" you are JUST considered normal weight... meaning that if you lose ANY weight you'll be considered underweight. A lot of females feel that way about themselves - our perception of our bodies is a lot different to us than to the people around us (most of the time we think we're fatter than we actually are). So, keep exercising (but not excessively) and keep eating healthy, but try to maintain your weight (you could even gain some). Just don't obsess over something that's not meant to be obsessed over until your BMI says you're overweight or obese - and from the sounds of it, you're no where close yet.

Good luck!

Yes, it is possible for you to be medically thin or fit but still think you are fat. It is called an early signs of anorexia. It is an unreasonable expectation for your body and wrong image of your own body mass.

At 5' 5" and 108lbs, you are borderline too thin. If you lose 10 pounds you are too thin. Your daily intake of calories are not sufficient.

If you lose 10 more pounds, you will be sick and you still won't be satisfied with your body. You need help...

What you really need to do is to TONE your body by gaining few pounds but do so in muscle mass and have it distributed in all the right places. You can do it by eating properly (more food but right kind of food) and exercises.

What exactly do you want to hear that you don't already know?

It sounds like your friends are pretty stupid. They obviously have no idea that you're fat, when obviously you ARE fat. They must be really angry because you're trying to do something that will make you look much better than them.

Not.

What's the big deal? You don't sound fat whatsoever. However, if you really want to get rid of that little bit, then go for it. Exercise and eat well. Drinks lots of water.

You are very thin.. It's normal to feel fat, but you really are not. You would have more confidence if you would just accept yourself as you are. Losing 10 lbs. isn't going to change the way you feel about your body. Wear cute clothes and try to think how great you look! At 98 lbs you would look like a stick. You have body issues and you might want to see a therapist as well..

You don't need to lose any weight. You are the perfect size for your height and age. Go to the gym and do sit ups and crunches to tighten up your tummy but forget about losing the weight. You need to stay healthy and be careful about how you feel about you body image. Be thankful that you don't have a weight problem. Love yourself for the person you are!

Well, if you don't beleive your friends, then you probably won't beleive me. An average person age 17, 5'5 should way at least 120 and on average 130 - guys usually way 180. So, I'd call you skinny. LUCKY!!!! Well, GOOD LUCK and just remeber to stay positive!

no...you really are JUST fine ..it is a feeling you will have all your life..but don't act on it...

you should try to become as confident as you can with your body..there is no NEED for you to work on losing weight...

if anything remember that muscle weighs more than fat..so if you feel like doing anything...work out and gain muscle..if you weighed 115 and worked out continuously..I would consider it a success...NOT because you got "fatter" ..that isn't what will have happened...you will weigh more..but will have cut the fat percentage..

You're a great weight, even a little thin. All you need to do is firm up. losing more weight would even make your skin looser.

Most girls would kill for your stats.
