Atheism is a belief. And it is directly related to religion and spirituality. When a so called "true believer" claims scientific knowledge here on the Religion and Spirituality section, Atheists need to be here to balance things out and help people separate the bull from the interesting ideas. The same holds true for Atheists posing religious questions.

Oh, actualy I had a burger.

Why is it that the religious think that atheism, religion, and spirituality have nothing to do with each other. As light is defined by dark, so is atheism defined by those who believe in a god. There are many religious who wish to see prayer in schools, atheists would rather not see this. This subject is unlikely to be discussed anywhere else.

Too, in the United States, atheists are forced to do business with money that proclaims "In God We Trust". Atheists are assaulted by the religious reich everywhere, and this is the place to disuss it.

If one has to deal with religion on a daily basis, it makes sense to discuss it on this forum. N'est pas?

Fish. A nice broiled salmon.

Some base their self-esteem on their ability to knock down other's beliefs (true of many belief systems)
Atheism IS a belief system for many.
Some are very sane about it. They simply have no reason to believe in God and thus don't believe it. The burden of proof is on those who wish to prove God's existance, and their position is quite reasonable.
At the same time, others are desperate and needy to prove their beliefs. They are the equivalent of "doubting Thomases" who have constant doubts about their own faith (Atheism) and can only sustain it by constant attack.

It's unfortunate, because otherwise we could have some fairly good discussions!

Keep talking to them. They mature, we get some better discussions,...

...and a whole new crop of teenagers looking to notch their guns before they lose their nerve.

Oh, I'm not religious, but know God exists from personal experience. I just bothered to actually read all the holy texts before I started trying to tear down the religions around them, and have a strong science and formal logic background.

Thirty-five years of study and practice of religions, including seminary.

Religion is what I'm most qualified to write about.

But I'll make a deal with you, you get your brothers and sisters to stop forcing your faith into my legislation and I'll stop posting here. OK?

Until then, why don't you really read some of our answers. You might actually learn something about being human.

This is not just a board for the religious people. If you can't stand having your beliefs questioned and seeing different points of view, then perhaps you are in the wrong place.

Because their opinions on religion and spirituality are valuable too. Not all the questions require a dogmatic highly-religious point of view.

I think the most common answer to this VERY common question is that you don't need to have a religion to be a spiritual person. This is the Religion AND Spirituality section.

Fish, please. Beer-battered and deep fried. Yum!:)
