To loose 1-2 per week, you must eat 500 calories less each day. Include exercise and 10 in a month should be no problem.
Just remember to drink lots and lots of water. It flushes your system and lets you loose weight easier.
Good Luck

Forget counting calories! Try this first!
1 - Stay away from ALL fast food joints.
2 - Give up all meats and breads for 30 days. Fish (or seafood) of any kind is okay!
3 - Change your diet and eat lots and lots of vegetables and fruit. There are some really great recipes online. Try sweet and sour cabbage soup for a weekend and you could lose 5 or more pounds nearly overnight.
4 - Avoid all canned and frozen foods for 30 days.
5 - If you can, walk everywhere for excercise.
I lost 12 pounds doing just this! It can work for you too.
Suggest letting your doctor know what you are doing as well.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats, take 300-400 calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
5-8servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water a day
5-6 small meals instead of 3 big ones (breakfast is the most important - make sure to get complex carbs like whole wheat bread, oatmeal, fruit etc)
4-6 times a week cardio for 30-50min, light weight training, many reps
no junk food, no sodas, no alcohol, no white flour (cakes, cookies, white bread, pasta etc.), nothing high in sugar (ice cream)

if you are looking to lose weight fast atkins is probably your best bet. but once you stop atkins or south beach you put all that weight back on plus more. but if you are looking for long term results, just eat small portions of food and don't worry much about calories. try eating more than 5 times a day but small meals to boot your matabolism (sp?). doing that plus half a mile walk a day you will see results in a few months. adding fruit to your diet instead of sweets also helps a bunch.

you need to find a calorie counter and find out how many calories you burn in a day. Like how many do you burn while you sleep, how many do you burn in a day at work. Once you figure out how many you burn in a day, then keep track of what you eat everyday and the calories in what you eat. Then it's just addition and subtraction to figure it out.

I am guessing around 1500 should give you a balance of
work out and calories to allow a loss of 10lbs. a month.
