I know about the usual stuff that individuals can do, such as buying energy efficient light bulbs and appliances and so on, but what I mean is are there any organisations that people can get involved in to help spread the word about global warming to people in their community and also on a world wide scale?

I've tried googling, but I'm not sure what EXACTLY to search for. I'm sure something like this exists and I am extremely interested in becoming more involved and alerting people around me - I just don't know where to start.

Global warming is in theory reversable, but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,

At least not untill we are all in the middle of planetary disastres and it becomes a battle for the survival of humanity every where.

tell other people to get with it
organize clean ups

these are Al gores sites

SOLUTIONS
if you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to reverse the destructive processes

reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.

the capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.

the world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia

Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.

the protection of existing forrests.

stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.

education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.

education on environmental awareness
education on family planning to curb over´populaion

Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.

more environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks

,more dams.regulations and control for public behaviour

alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine

recicling wastes,limit water use

here are a 100 more ways

A risk might be... Dropping your new low power light - bulb... its full of mercury vapour... if you break it and inhale that stuff it melts to your neurons. You are supposed to evacuate the room if you break a bulb. Will carbon trading get rid of this stuff? No... global warming hype is a distraction. We have little effect to global temperatures which are driven by solar activity and solutions to global warming revolve around the misconception that CO2 has anything to do with it (if it even exists). While we ignore the real world wide important issues of pollution, war, famine etc etc. Here's a link to youtube where they show video of neurons getting destroyed by mercury. Don't break those low powered bulbs. By the way... they put it in vaccines and tell you its good for you.... yum yum.

It's probably only a matter of time before even the most ardent deniers of global warming begin to accept it.

In the past there were many governments who disputed global warming - today every government in the world accepts it.

The power and oil companies traditionally took a stance against global warming but today every major oil and power company in the world accepts it. http://profend.com/global-warming/pages/questions.html#6

Many large organisations also disputed global warming but at a recent meeting in Davos,Switzerland the CEO's of the world's 1000 biggest corporations unilaterally declared that climate change was "the most critical problem facing humanity". http://www.sierraclub.org/sierra/200105/globalwarm.asp

And despite the amount of noise that the skeptics make only 10% of Americans don't beleive in global warming http://www.pollingreport.com/enviro.htm and on a worldwide scale it's even less http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/articles/btenvironmentra/187.php?nid=&id=&pnt=187

There are some people who will forever dispute global warming just as there are some people who still dispute that smoking is harmful.

One problem in trying to convert people is that they don't like being preached to and this has been a problem in America. Outside the US there's been very little preaching, people have been able to read both sides of the argument and make up their minds for themselves. In the US it became a political issue and is effectively a case of Dems v Reps and people found they weren't being given the opportunity to make up their own mind, instead they were being told what to think.

What you've no doubt discovered for yourself is that there's an awful lot of lies and misunderstandings about global warming - not just from the opponents of GW but the advocates as well, you only have to look at many of the comments made on this forum to see that. The media don't help with their alarmist and sensationalistic approach.

The bottom line is that global warming is occuring but it needn't be the major issue that a lot of people are making it out to be. There are steps that can be taken which don't affect our lifesyles in any dramatic way.

In the last few days I've been doing some cost anyalysis work and the frontrunner in the geoengineering approach to combating climate change should cost no more than $50 per person to establish and probably no more than $10 a year to maintain. This would remove 27 billion tons of CO2 a year from the atmosphere. After allowing for the natural sequestration of carbon dioxide last year we produced a 25 billion tons. All of this can be offset for a very small cost per person.

If you want to 'convert' people my suggestion would be to educate them by presenting them with the facts and the sources behind the facts. Explain the truth behind the 'evidence' that people use to discredit global warming and climate change but ultimately don't try and force your views onto people. Give them the facts from both sides of the argument and let people decide for themselves.

Get the hypocrites (Al Gore) to be more energy efficient or stop believing global warming even exsists. I did a complete reasearch study on this topic and found more things that seggested it was all a big hoax rather than a matter of dire jepordy to the planet. Not saying we shouln't do things to save this planet just saying we need to take a closer look at the facts before we cry armageddon.

If you think the global warming folks have it right then instead of doing what they're doing (watching little stuff like buying special light bulbs while ignoring big stuff like flying cross-country every week in private jets) and go whole-hog: go live in a mud hut in the forest and eat grubs and berries. You have no business trying to pass laws to force other people to eliminate their CO2 production if you're still producing alot of it.

My friends and I make lots of ice cubes and leave them outside. Have you noticed how most of the country has gotten cooler? We take the credit for this. In a few weeks we plan to hook up our garden hoses to the hot water tank and spray hot water into the air. Watch to see if things don't get warmer because of our actions.
