What else are you going to put in the room color wise? Your carpet is something thats going to be there for some time, I like taking a bold stance by picking a vibrant color, but this is a color your going to have to live with for some time. I like red, red goes well with grey, black is nice too, dark but nice. I feel if you go grey your going to feel like your room is small, and boring. Beige is ok, but it has to be the right color of beige. What about hardwood flooring, they are universal, and the color goes with anything, if you don't have hardwood flooring under your carpet, what about stained concrete, I don't know what your working with, so I'm just throwing ideas out. So, how bold do you want to be? Hope this help....
P.S. if you do the hardwood or stained concrete, nice are rugs will help soften the room, and add that color sceme you desire!

Take a color chip of the paint with you when you pick carpet. Some greys have undertones of yellow or brown that would work with carpets with those colors in them. Other grey paints work with blue/green or are neutral enough that any color carpet would work with them.

We are redoing a bedroom currently inhabited by 2 young adult males. I wanted to lay down a ebony laminate floor (almost black) but was advised that it would show every spec of dirt, dust, cat hair, and scratches would be more noticeable. So I will probably go with Cherry, which is more in line with the flooring in the rest of our house.

You can always change the color of your walls, which is cheaper than carpet.

I would go with a gray or a beige, depending on the color of what's going in the room, but both are neutral colors and work with most other colors. You could always go dramatic and carpet it in black.

I think a nice black carpet with a cool pattern in it of some sort...and get the extra thick padding!! It feels sooooooo good to walk on barefoot. With the money u can save pulling up your old carpet and padding will help u get that upgraded padding. No more stains on the carpet!!!

Go for apple mint, dirt is not easily detectable with this color and it's restful to the eyes. See the picture below. Better yet go to a carpet store and see what else you have to choose from.

Instead of a bright red sofa/chair, try a deeper red, like a burgundy shade, it would go better with the gray than the bright red. But Otherwise it sounds great.

I would go with either beige or gray. I wouldn't do black,
it will show every bit of dirt (think of a black car...)

Or you could go with Ohio State Red! Go Buckeyes!
