first I only speak Spanish and English, however, in high school I studied French for two years and found it to be about the easiest language on the planet, pronunciation is clear and concise, the accents are easy enough, the grammar is pretty simple (compared to Spanish) and the language shares a lot of vocabulary with English - a lot! Italian is so much like Spanish its not funny, I have an Italian friend and I can understand most everything he says and I have never studied the language a day in my life! Having said all this I would suggest that you learn French because A: It is easy, B: It's more useful than Italian since French is spoken in many countries all over the globe and throughout most of europe, and C: It will really improve your English skills (it did mine).
I hope this helps you in making your decision - good luck!

Go ahead and begin both if you wish but I guarantee that you will find French much more difficult if you want to speak it properly and even more so if you ever intend on writing it properly. There's no end to the rules of Grammar and when it comes to verbs, French has more tenses than Italian can ever even imagine. If anyone tells you otherwise, their French is probably like most French outside of France... pretty awful and often, they don't even understand one another even if they live in the same province. (it's that different! such as chiaque, joual, acadian, cadjun, bouctouche, saguine and slangs of all sorts.) Of course Italian also has 'dialects' which differ from one village to the next but most younger ones and or educated ones will speak Italian and not just their own dialect. So if I were you, being the only one of a class of secretaries who could even pass the French exam the first time with a 98% average whereas the rest of the students all had to pass it again for not even reaching the mark of 60% in the first one, I strongly suggest that you begin with the more basic Latin language, "Italian". Then go for "French" and join the millions who literaly want to pull their hair whenever they try to write anything "mistake free". To prove this point even further, I could show you so many store products with errors right on the French label... It happens a lot. On the other hand I never see an Italian error anywhere on any Italian products.

I'd recommend French. If you know Turkish, you will find that there are many words in Turkish that have originated from French, so you will recognise some words, which will help you feel encouraged.

Examples - bagaj , mersi, kamyon

The reason for the common words was the occupation of the Ottoman empire after World War I, by Britain, France and the USA. Also, it was fashionable in the 1920's for the educated elite to be able to speak French.

French.
1) It is more widely spoken as native/official/trade language. It's also a work language in many international body.

2) Italian has a just little more complex grammar
(Tenses and modes of verbs are the same, but there are more verb classes*)

But personal preferences also have relevance.

Italian and French are very similar, so once you know one it'll be easy to learn the other. You will probably find Italian easier with pronunciation.
