Agreed! I think a good part of it is carelessness, they just don't give a s--- about anyone but themselves, people will stop to talk right in the doorway while there's plenty of room just two steps aside... they'll drag their grocery carts behind them sideways and park anywhere at all...
But I don't know if it's always laziness, some people seem to have more of this sense naturally while others totally lack any sense of their surroundings... shows from their reactions, the uncaring ones respond rudely when you say something but others will be all apologethic and promise a million times to get better and they still keep doing it for some stupid reason!

Amen! Although, unfortunately, these people probably DON'T get hit jay-walking, but cause accidents instead.
I often stop dead on the sidewalk when two people are taking the whole space. It forces them to either run into me face on (I have ugly, mean face), or move to the side. It gets the point across when I refuse to step into the street to let these rude couples pass.
Good luck with the quest, but it is hopeless. I don't smoke anymore, but used to enforce my space with a back handed cigarette, as well. I never bumped them with it, but if they bumped my cig by coming into MY space, they, or their clothing was burned. The only thing I miss about smoking. LOL

The optical analogy to that's easy refraction. For optical factors of extreme index of refraction, even for common staggering it at low angles proceed contained interior the textile at steeper angles. the essential coastline, via fact of a in many situations occuring slope below the water, is extra suited helpful approximated with the help of ability of a non-linear optical fabrics with an increasing index of refraction. the result's that each and every and every physique the waves ultimately breaking on the factor of the shore seem parallel to the coastline, regardless of the direction of the unique waves out at sea. fairly, the wave are no longer constantly precisely parallel to the shore, yet in many situations are available in in at reasonable variations. professional surfers understand this with the help of ability of watching that some instruments of waves break from left to particular, and others vice versa.

I think they are unaware of both their surroundings, and the annoyance they are causing.
And I sincerely hope hope hope people like this see your question and the answers and that it makes something dawn for them - I don't even think they realize how obnoxious they are being, and if they could just see themselves, it would help; Like looking in the mirror and realizing you have some really big goober goey thing stuck in the middle of your teeth . . .
Oh, and people who are loud all the time and arguing when there's nothing to argue about -- That's really annoying too.

I thot it was just me they tried to run over.
When I go to that big MArt store I push a buggy just to defend myself from being run down.
One time I took a bike horn from the bike dept and used it..hahahah. Beeped at people blocking the isle, about to run me down.....side swipping me...etc.
Can only get by with that once...lolol
I about walk five extra miles side stepping people running over me.I have started stopping dead in my tracks also.
I am glad to see there are some aware of where they are,
thoughtful,
and not that rude and self centered. Thanks for being polite.

Back when I was growing up in the 50's our parents taught us to keep to our right when we were walking and to form a single line in crowded places. The one that really irritates me is the groups of people talking who will not make room for anyone to pass. It is such a ME ME world today. You asked a really good question.

And when a car is parked on the street so you have to steer toward the middle of the road, but the people on the other side dont even pull closer to the sidewalk. I hate those drivers because I love my car...

Some such people are obsessed with marking their territory and status; others are just rude and self-centred; others are dopey and others have their minds on other things and do not pay as much attention to their immediate surroundings as the rest of us.

Why do people stand in front of doorways when people behind them are trying to exit? Why do they barge into elevators when people are trying to get out? Why do they take forever to dish out their food in buffet lines? Why do they stop and look at an ambulance parked by the side of the highway, which causes traffic to back up for miles? It's because they are not thinking of anyone besides themselves.

They are inconsiderate people who think they do not need to move -- "you" should be getting out of "their" way.
I just don't. They've seen me from many yards away, I'm staying on my side of the path, if they can't stick to their 'lane' I'm not going to jump into the street to make way for them.
