Not what does it mean, but what is the point, goal, mission?( if any )

Is it just a counter culture that formed from social need, or something more?

There is no point, goal, or mission, or social need. That is what separates it from religions. "a-theism" is the opposite of religion.

Just an acceptance that we're here on our own.

The point was to give a name to the situation where somebody doesn't believe in any gods. It is not a counter culture, it's just the lack of belief. ...However this is just the official version of atheism. In fact, its mission is clearly to take over the world, destroy the hopes of the human species, put down the freedom of thought and make little children cry. They worship a hideous atheistic God, manufacture and sell a whole range of hideous and sad artifacts, and celebrate their feasts by sacrificing little sweet looking animals. And since I am here, by the way, there is no Santa.

What is the goal of akringleism? The lack of a belief in the existence of Kris Kringle does not require a goal. The same with atheism.

Atheism just means not believing in the existence of gods - as such, it has no point, goal, mission, purpose or anything else - it's simply a state we find ourselves in as a result of there being no valid reason to believe that any gods actually exist in reality.

There is no POINT. In fact, there probably shouldn't even be a name for it. Atheists are simply people who don't believe in a deity. They don't have "names" for people who don't believe in Santa Claus, or unicorns, so they really don't need to name people who don't believe in a deity. It actually is confusing in a way, because it sort of gives people the impression that it's a "religion". It's not. (Any more than not believing in Santa or unicorns is a religion.)
It's also not a "culture", or anything like that. Atheists are just normal, everyday people who just happen not to share the same religious beliefs as other people.

There is no point to it, it's simply the belief that there is no god and that we don't go anywhere when we die, we just cease to exit and that's it.

It is thought that a huge increase in atheists is down to science and discoveries explaining previously unknown phenomenon. Previously (and I don't mean a decade ago) earthquakes, eclipses, tsunamis all natural occurances because they could not be explained were thought to be acts of god...as these are all disproved so has the belief in god for a lot of people. Me included.

I, being a Christian, can actually understand the atheist. Sometimes it seems like a hard story to buy. But, that is where faith comes in.
Perhaps they are angry that their parents told them of santa and the easter bunny and they turned out to be lies and they just assume that Christ is a lie too.
Here's what I don't get. Satanists. To be a satanist, you acknowledge the existence of God but choose to go in the extreme opposite direction.
I think for the atheist there is still hope on judgment day, but not for the satanist.

What is the point of disbelieving in Zeus, Thor, and the Invisible Pink Unicorn?

Disbelief in Yahweh or Allah has pretty much the exact same point. If the god hypothesis doesn't make sense to you, and you don't have evidence for it, then you don't believe it. That's it, pure and simple - no further "point" is necessary.

There is no goal or mission. We are individuals who do not believe in god. It is so simple. We think like we do because we weigh the evidence and come to the only conclusion that is logical.

Atheism is simply the lack of beliefs in god(s). There is no overt or covert mission. It is not a religion, it is not a belief, it is a position of non-belief.
