I am not an expert in lighting nor cameras, but I was wondering if a throwaway camera with a flash would work inside of a convention center? What I am saying is in the next few months I plan to attend this convention near my residence and want to bring a camera. Will the pictures I take from this event develop nicely? Or will the pictures come out ugly due to the flash or lighting of the place?

The convention will be inside and its sort of lit up. The last time I attended this convention, is what as light as a classroom or building

Another thing I forgot to mention, I will most likely take pictures with celebrities in attendance at this convention. So I am guessing a person taking a picture of me with the celebrities will probably be about 3-5 feet away.

Built-in flashes are effective up to 15 feet. This is fine for portraits but you obviously can't light up the whole convention center.
To get decent wide angle shots too, I suggest you get a camera with 400 ISO film. Any lower and the shutter speed gets pretty slow - your pictures can become blurry. Any higher, and you'll achieve a fast shutter speed at the expense of grainy pictures.

It would matter how good the lighting is. Some of the lighting might wash the picture out a little. Also if you're taking a picture of something far away (like a speaker or someone performing), the flash won't reach far enough. You'll probably get a bright foreground and darker in the back
