"The Letter Of Barnabas"; Was one of the most important writings for proto-orthodox Christianity.... "The book in fact was written long after Barnabas himself would have died: It mentions, for example, the destruction of the Temple (70 AD) and refers to the possibility of it's soon being rebuilt. (16:3-4)... The book is principally concerned with the relationship of Judaism and Christianity. Its basic thrust is that Judaism is, and always has been, a false religion... A great deal of this book, therefore, tries to show how Christ and the Christian religion were foreshadowed in the OT scriptures."

The manuscripts of the Gospel of Barnabas date back to the middle ages. The two manuscripts which the Gospel is written in is in Spanish and Italian. Seeing as there is no Greek or Hebrew manuscript for the Gospel, what makes you think that there was a copy of the Gospel at the Council of Nicaea? If there is no manuscripts of the Gospel which date back to Jesus' time, then the Gospel loses it claim for authenticity. Proving that the 4 Gospels in the Bible are more reliable than this Gospel because their manuscripts are the closest to the time of Jesus. Also the Gospel claims Joseph as Mary's husband, while in the Quran her husband is not mentioned and her only protector is Zechariah. Email me if you have any further questions. I'll read them tomorrow, Sholam!

The writers of the Bible didn't know Christ. they were written a hundred years after Christ lived. Now the Gnostic Gospels are different some were written at the time of Christ. The Gospel of St Thomas is the earliest gospel ever written and some argue is the the very writing as Christ. Reading the Gnostic Gospels sounds more like Christ to me than the Christian Bible but all must be taken into proper context cause they all contain the teachings of Christ. My favorite from the Gospel of St. Thomas "The Church is not found in walls made of mortar and stone but found in the hearts of those who believe in me (Jesus Christ) " Now that sounds like Christ to me more than Hate your farther and mother we find in the Christian Bible. The Bible has been changed so many times its hard to know whats true anymore. The Gospel of Barnabas sounds true enough to me and has similar accounts that's are found in the Bible as well. I think its as authentic as the Bible itself. It would still be around if the council didn't ordered it destroyed. The Councils were drunk with power and sought to control what Christians thought and believe and to put an end to 2 schools of thought. They also succeeded but some of the Gnostic Books survived today. It's too bad that such wealth of knowledge had to be destroyed by power hungry idiots. We never learn from our history.

It's been a while. I don't remember it.
Let's see:
You know, if they are going to screw around with the New Testament, Jesus, and what he did, they don't make a very good case by beginning it with "Jesus Christ", and then denying everything else.
"Dearly beloved the great and wonderful God hath during these past days visited us by his prophet Jesus Christ in great mercy of teaching and miracles"
If he was Christ, then the Muslims have a covering for sin in Him. Boy they are dumb!
EDIT: DID YOU SEE THAT!!!!!!! I didn't at first! Whoever changed it was STUPID! LO major L.
It says: Dearly beloved the great and wonderful God hath during these past days visited us by his prophet Jesus Christ
It admitted it was God who visited "us".
Oh man, this is too funny!
Hado, you aren't getting it man. It's contradicting itself. We don't have to do anything except know what the words mean. I would suggest that this is not the same Gospel of Barnabus that the council saw. They did a little more than provide commentary. It appears they corrupted the text. It wouldn't be the first time that things were altered. But whoever did it didn't understand what they were saying when they used the word 'Christ'.

I don't read fake gospels of Gnostic origin. I rely on writers like John, Matthew, and Peter, who knew Jesus personally, whose writings are consistent with eachother, and who stood to gain nothing in this world but bloody death by standing by their testimonies of the good news that Jesus is the Son of God and has risen from the dead and will come again.

The most important thing you can take from this is that it is not in agreement with the true word of God nor is it in agreement with the Qu'ran as this fake gospel does call Jesus the Christ then has Jesus denying he is the Messiah which is the same thing and the proceeds to call Muhammad the Messiah. The book is an obvious fraud written by a Muslim with little understanding of his own religion.
Muslim scholars have attempted to twist it to be in agreement with the Qu'ran by calling all of God's prophets Messiah's which again is not in agreement with the word of God nor the Qu'ran which uses the word THE Messiah when refering to Christ not a Messiah.
Edit: I reject it based on the scriptures that precede it The Bible is the word of God and it The Gospel of Barnabas is not in agreement with God.
Now Muslims believe the Qu'ran to be the word of God which is not in agreement with the true word of God.. Now If a man believe in the God of Abraham and Moses then one has plenty of God's truth to compare any scripture to. If a scripture is not in agreement with God then the scriptrue can not be the word of God..Now if I reject the scriptures that came from Moses and the prophets then I must surely be rejecting the God they worshiped. The Gospel of Barnabas like the Qu'ran seeks to be in agreement with MY God and yet are not in agreement with him. Now If I were a Muslim and did not believe that God was capable of keeping his word I might have trouble believing in God at all... however I am Christian and My God's word has remainded the same for thousands of years Jews and Christians share these scriptures this definitely shows these scriptures have been consistant....The DSS shows Isaiah to still be intact from 250 BC and it tells of the coming of the Messiah and that he would atone for sin..now if scriptures come after these and are not in agreement with them which would be the forgery the first or the last? God promised to keep his word he created the world and is perfectly capable of keeping his truth pure and has done so.. the proof is in coming to know the true God in a personal realtionship with him. The Bible teachs that those who love the truth will seek him and those will receive a gift of faith and through faith comes a real relationship with God and I have found this to be true...God can then lead you in his truth..The true God is all powerful and available to all who love the truth and he keeps his word and he will share in a true realtionship with those who love him.

The so called “Gospel of Barnabas” is a forgery written in the 14th or 15th century.
If this writing was authentic, it would be reasonable to expect that the author would be familiar with the basic facts of Jewish life at this time. However the author of the so called “Gospel of Barnabas” did not understand the language, history or geography of 1st century Israel.
1.) Geography
In the first half of chapter 20 we find “Jesus went to the Sea of Galilee, and having embarked in a ship sailed to his city of Nazareth” and after Jesus calmed the storm “arrived at the city of Nazareth the seamen spread through the city all that Jesus had wrought”.
It would be impossible to embark a ship and sailed to the city of Nazareth. Nazareth is 25 km inland from the Sea of Galilee and more than 500m higher in altitude and situated on a ridge half way between Sea of Galilee and the Mediterranean Sea. You cannot sail a ship to city of Nazareth.
2.) Christ / Messiah
The word “Christ” is the Greek translation for the Hebrew word “Messiah”. Both these words when translated into English mean the Anointed One or the Chosen One. This word is not an obscure or rarely used word, on the contrary it is one of the most famous words in the Jewish and Christian religions. There is no doubt that if the author had been a disciple of Jesus, he would have been very familiar with this word.
However in the very opening of the book we find Jesus announced as God’s “prophet Jesus Christ”. And later in chapter 24 “Jesus confessed, and said the truth: 'I am not the Messiah.'” It is clear that the author did not understand the language spoken by Jesus and the 1st century Jews
3.) History
In chapter 3 we are told that Herod and Pilate both ruled in Judea at the time of Jesus' birth: “here reigned at that time in Judaea Herod, by decree of Caesar Augustus, and Pilate was governor.”
This is historically wrong for Herod and Pilate never ruled Judea at the same time. Herod ruled Judea alone from 37-4 B.C., while Pilate ruled thirty years later from 26-36 A.D.[3] The real Barnabas lived during the rule of Pilate, so if he really was the writer of this book, how could he make such a simple mistake?
4.) Ancient Evidence
There is absolutely no ancient evidence for the book. There is nothing to even suggest that this book even existed prior to the 14th century.
5.) Internal Evidence
The internal evidence of the book suggests it was written in the 14th or 15th century, and there are Muslim scholars who agree with this dating. The Gospel of Barnabas contains quotations from Dante Alighieri, references to an edict from Pope Boniface, and descriptions of feudalism and lots of other discrepancies. Therefore, scholars place the date of authorship around the fifteenth century.
For other anachronisms (things that show that this “gospel” was written at a much later time in history) see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gospel_of_Barnabas#Anachronisms
The so called “Gospel of Barnabas” is not an authentic Gospel of Jesus. The book is a rewrite of the Biblical Gospel most likely by a Muslim around the 14th or 15th century who wanted to portray Jesus as a Muslim who taught Islam and predicted the coming of Muhammad.
(Note: It’s important that we not confuse the Gospel of Barnabas with the Epistle of Barnabas. These are two separate documents with two very different authors - the Epistle of Barnabas was written A.D. 70–90).
