Female to female and male to male aggression is more common than female to male.
To decrease the chances aggression and fights may occur, make sure they are both spayed.
You want to introduce them slowly...don't just throw the puppy in with your already established dog. Let them take time to get used to each other. Make sure you make the experience positive for both the new puppy and the 7 month old, by offering them treats when they show interest but are not overly excited in each other's presence.
Good luck!

sure, there are many reasons why though you might want to watch out. females are protective of there human, while males protect more towards there territory, which dates back all the way back to the wolf period were female alphas were in charge of the pups and male alphas guarded the den and the entire pack. so with two dogs of the same gender co existing in the same space you might have one jealous dog because she thinks that the other is getting to much attention, so make sure that you pay attention to both equally. and another thing is, since they both protect there master, you, if one protects you and the other just didn't, dont just say thank you to the one that growled at the rolling ball, but also the one that was observant and didn't make a move, because you wouldn't want any fights. make sure they get along, because some dogs will get viscious when another dog, even two females, enters there territory or is playing with it's master. good luck

Yes, most of the time. But before you buy the puppy, think about your 7month old dog's behavior around kids and other people, this may relate to how the 7 month old acts around the new puppy. Are they going to be the same breed? If not there are certain breeds that absolutely don't get along. Also, make sure you are capable of caring for 2 dogs. Good Luck with your dogs!!! They may be best friends. :-)

I am a in home hobby breeder, i have 2 males and 3 females none of which are fixed. They get along great. I have a small amount of growling from the males, when the females are in heat, but that is all. So go ahead and let your family grow, and enjoy the rewards.

Male dogs coexisting is much more difficult to deal with. I'd say that you'll be OK with 2 females.

Funny that you asked this question...someone brought it up at the dog park the other day. The ideal is 2 males together or male/female (as per the dog park conversation)spayed an neutered of course.

Assuming your akita mix is spayed, as is the rescue, there's a much better chance that they'll get along. I'd be more worried about to females placed together than their mixes. Find out if you can bring your dog to the shelter to see how they interact

I had two female dogs while I was growing up. They were both spayed, and the younger one deferred to the older one. They became good friends and companions.
