Today is Holy Thursday, and Catholic churches will celebrate the Mass of the Lord's Supper tonight. Something unique about this mass is that people take's Jesus' command to heart and wash each other's feet. (For those of you who aren't familiar with the concept don't worry, they're clean beforehand - this is a ritual washing, not a bath!)

I'm curious - do other Christian denominations do this? And for anyone who does, how does your church do it? Are all welcome, a select number of people? Do people participate?

Thank you the non-Christians who are responding! I didn't consider this, but I'd love to hear about it! I love to see what we have in common.

I've been to an Episcopalian church that did this -- although I'm not sure how standard it is?

FYI - What's the difference between a Catholic & an Episcopalian?
A: about two divorces.

Yes my church does it too. I grew up Freewill Baptist. Anyone a Christian and understands the meaning behind it is able to attend. The women go in one room and the men in another. Then we wrap the garment around our waist and pray for each other as we wash their feet. It is a very special, meaningful, wonderful, and humbling experience.

my parents go to a church were the pastor felt he started looking at himself more than God or his church so he did a foot washing to remind himself that even though he was the pastor he was still just servant. I like the symbolism but its still little weird to me :)

...Yes, "we" do it about once every month or so... "we" follow Scripture and try as best we can to follow the teaching and examples of Yeshua (you know Him as Jesus)... Shalom.
