i live about ten-fifteen minutes away from usc. is it worth moving out next year, or is commuting from home good for another year? consider this:
tution is about 40g a year, and one-bedrooms are about 1200/month, or at least the one i am eyeing. (my parents pay for my tution already, so i will feel pretty bad asking them to pay for that apartment.) also, the area isnt too nice .. but i will be only a walking distance away from the school, which also means i have to give up my new bmw (i cant have a new car AND a new apartment, get it?) i will have more "freedom" i suppose, too, but my parents dont really restrain me from anything nonetheless.. so it wont matter on that part.

i could point-counterpoint forever, so i need help.

Depends on how much you like your BMW, and the freedom that comes with it. Think about this - how would you get groceries, furniture, all the too-much-to-take-in-one-load stuff you might need to take/haul? If you don't have a car, that can get pretty bad if the grocery store is miles away. Nothing like having to haul your hamburger, half-gallon of milk, carton of eggs, lunch meat and canned goods all on a city bus at one time, unless you want to go grocery shopping on an almost daily basis, or get fast food all the time (rather expensive and not always conveniently located). You might say your parents might be willing to do grocery shopping with you and help cart it to your apartment, and they might, but I've got a grandfather we already have to do that for and it becomes a big pain each month, a task we dread. It would soon become that way for your parents. Would also be a pain for you, too, if you forget anything while at the store.

Me, personally, I would stay where you are as long as you are still going to school. If this is your last year and you are getting a job next year, you'll need your car to get to work, so look at how much money the jobs in your field are paying, and figure out if you can live off that money and keep your car. Start applying about 2 weeks before graduation (that way the employers that need someone ASAP might still consider you; 2-weeks notice is standard for letting a company know you are leaving them, anyway). Apply for anything that says "Jr." in the title, even if it says 1-2 yrs. experience - they will likely take your college as enough. Just my advice. Take care.

I think the real question is more like: In my new BMW, all the guys are all over me, but when Im walking, I feel like a bum....

On a more serious note, commute! a 15 min drive is nothing. And if you have the freedom, keep it. Once you move out, you may not be able to come back. 1200/mo plus any other bills will require a lot more working while your in school, so youll prob have less time to do anything other than sleep study and work...

You are in the dilemma my daughter was in some years back. I told her that I have a house here and she is welcome to stay and live here while she goes to school. She wanted to be on her own and be closer to school. She and some friends of hers signed a years lease, she was so happy to be moving. In about 9 months time she moved back in with us. She was so happy to be moving back. Her roommates were slobs, didn't clean up after themselves and left her to do all the work. They would be late on the rent, and some other things. Anyway she was lucky enough to find another girl who wanted to move out of the dorm and she took over the rest of my daughter's lease. When she was home, Mom did her laundry, bought her food and cooked it, I would work on her car, and mom cleaned the house. All she had to do was to keep her room clean, more or less.

Stay at home and save your money, you may need it when you graduate and get a job, and then you will have to move out maybe.

I live in Santa Clarita in an upscale apartment community. You could consider living here with no strings attached.
