Yes you can. If you received a Dishonorable Discharge, any company that has an affiliation with the U.S. government can deny you a job. This includes companies like Mc Donald's, Burger King, Sbarro, just to name a few.

Yes and no. Some jobs will not interview, or even talk to you until you have your DD-214 ... ie: not until you are officially out of the military. Some jobs will start the interviewing process while you are seperating, or during your terminal leave. Then again, there are some jobs (mostly part time stuff for some extra cash) that will hire you while you're in the military (bartending, Home Depot, Best Buy, ect...). An employer has every right to not hire you if you are in the military. Your military obligation is 24/7 and you can be called away for basically any reason, and most jobs can't have it that way.
Now, as far as your discharge type, that can vary. If you dishonorably discharged and had any security clearances revoked from you ... I'd bet dollars to donuts that you won't get any job with a defense contractor any time soon. An employer also has the right to view your DD-214 Member Copy 4 (the sheet that tells you the exact reason you got out of the military) to see if you are a dirt-bag, or if you served your time honorably. Your DD-214 is almost like a reference, and if a possible employer called a reference of your's and they told them that you were a dirt-bag ... you probably won't get hired.
It's like this: if I go into an interview with a naked woman tattooed on my forehead, I will *not* get that job. They can say I didn't get the job for any other reason (not enough experience, not at the right level of education, ect ect) but they won't ever say it was because of the tattoo.
If you did something bad in the military ... yes. It will follow you and make things difficult. Then again, if you think you have an concrete discrimination case and were denied a job for that reason, then get yourself a lawyer.
(Excuse me if this is different for other branches. I'm ex-Navy, and Navy tends to do everything a little different.)

For past service... you can be denied a position if you were discharged under less than honorable conditions. Dishonorable discharge, discharge for conduct unbecoming, discharge for certain medical reasons. Your narative on your dd 214 will tell the whole story to a prospective employer. If you are currently active duty you must have permission from your comand to take on another job. If you are Reserves or National Guard you are protected against discrimination under the Uniformed Services Employment Reemployment Act of 1994.

there have been chemical weapons in Iraq. They have been offered to Saddam Hussein interior the 1980's for use on Iran by ability of American companies. they have all been used, destroyed, moved out of Iraq, or hidden so properly that for the period of five years of occupation the closest subject the yankee militia has got here across are some deteriorated practice shells that could or won't have been loaded or close to chemical weapons quicker or later interior the previous. paradoxically, over a million/2 of people have self belief that we've got here across important stockpiles of chemical weapons / WMD in Iraq. on the comparable time, there is an very almost a chuckle irony that the closest ties Saddam has with Bin laden and Al Queda is thru former individuals of the Bush administration. Out of all of the evidence, all of the sign site visitors, and all of the folk who're individuals or suspected individuals of Al Queda there is one a hazard touch between a low point member of Al Queda and a low point member of the Iraqi government. it truly is totally almost outstanding how LITTLE of a connection there is. Al Queda in Iraq is an fullyyt distinctive enterprise then Osama Bin laden's Al Queda enterprise - yet very few people know the important great difference. How does this take place? people have self belief the information and have not have been given any interest in getting cautioned. If something sounds like it could be real and meets their preconceived notions, something that doesn't agree is disregarded. u . s . is uninformed, and it is not purely the warriors. If something, they have the wonderful excuse - their get right of entry to to contemporary information and activities is limited by using fact they are spending 2, 3, or greater excursions in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The only time you can is if you were issued an other than honorable discahrge. If yuo were given a dishonorable discharge than you cannot work for any company which contracts w/ the gov, this includes MCDonalds and Burger King, you may not collect social secuirty, student loans, welfare etc..
Otherwise it is illegal for an employer to say I was a marine and you were a soldier so no hire lol

Yes, Vets often get preference & a dishonorable discharge will usually get you "unhired'. My husband's company never hires dishonorable discharges or even less than honorable discharges. They believe it tells you a persons character. veterans are always given preference there. thank you! Their attorney says it is their choice.

It's a meaningless question. Nobody ever gives a reason for not hiring someone. They just don't hire them.
